Name

edit

Does anybody know how Guerrero got such a non-Latino first name of "Vladimir"? If he was from Cuba I'd understand it, but since he's not, I'm interested to know why he was given a name not common where he's from. -albrozdude 21:37, 26 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I also came here looking for this information. It seems really odd for a Dominican player to have a Russian/Slavic first name like Vladimir. Does Guerrero have any eastern European ancestry? Is he named after someone in particular? If there is some interesting story behind his name, it seems like it should be included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.251.125.50 (talk) 20:01, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
My high school Spanish teacher told me there was a lot of pro-Soviet sentiment in Latin America during the Cold War, which led to many children being given Russian-derived names. FiredanceThroughTheNight (talk) 01:09, 29 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

I removed the part about Rex Hudler.

"All of which were popularized by the Angels color commentator (and former MLB player) Rex Hudler."

For one, its not at all relevant who popularized the nicknames and second its false. He didnt popularize "Vlad the Impaler". He was called that back when he was in Montreal. And "Big Daddy Vladdy" is just a variation of "Big Vladdy" which he was also reffered to back in Montreal.

Vlad The Impaler is always heard on Baseball Tonight. Karl Ravech practically invented it for him. Nicknames are earned. Just because "he didn't popularized" it doesn't mean anything.

Um, I've never heard him referred to a "Mr. Tumnus". Anyone got a cite for that? Cowboyx 20:29, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

No - and it fails the Google test, except that "Mr. Tumnus" is the pseudonym used by someone who has posted some entries about Guerrero on Internet forums. I believe this is someone's idea of a joke, and am going to remove it on that basis. If it gets reverted, perhaps someone will cite references and/or investigate further? Birth Date

edit

This article claims that Wilton Guerrero is Vladimir's brother (as does Wilton's article), but the quoted birth dates are 1974/10/24 for Wilton and 1975/2/9 for Vladimir, which, at 108 days apart, would suggest they can at most be half-brothers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.146.14.97 (talk) 23:26, 7 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

This is a ridiculously late response, but some sources indicate that Vladdy was born in 1976, not 1975. Hmm. --67.180.161.183(talk)06:36, 13 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

In the article it states that he is the older brother of Cristian Guerrero. But when you click on Cristian Guerrero it states that he is a cousin of Vladdy and Wilton. Which is the right one???

Make it Angel picture

edit

Can someone change his image to him as an Angel because that’s the most appropriate that team is what he most known for Black roses124 (talk) 23:57, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

It should be the photo that shows him the best and the one that is there is the best one we have. If you can find a picture with the Angels that is free to use and better than what we have then you can present it for inclusion. Spanneraol (talk) 00:37, 14 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
