@Mhawk10: Alright, I haven't done one of these in a bit. These are my initial notes, and I'll likely have more recommendations as the review goes on. Please use the   Done, strikethrough, or some other means to signify that an issue has been addressed. Etriusus (Talk) 20:25, 4 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sources edit

Note: Please reference Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources
  • Source #7 cites the New York Post, generally considered an unreliable source. Looking at the cited sentence, the source seems unnecessary.
Done I've removed the reference to the NY Post from that sentence. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 05:25, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • What archive is being used for The Passaic Herald-News? I assume Newspaper.com. I managed to find the sources but linking the citations would be greatly appreciated.
@Etriusus: The archive is indeed newspapers.com. It's going to take a while for me to get all the clippings, but this is something I can do if you would like. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 05:25, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
This point is not necessary but would be greatly appreciated. As long as the information is verifiable, then the citation is fine per GA criteria. Consider it a quality of life improvement that is optional. Etriusus (Talk) 11:53, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Sources seem to be primarily archives of local papers, no other major issues were noted.

First Pass edit

  • "held for much of the duration of the war" Please state he was liberated by allied forces and give an exact date.
[1] Here is an obituary with the exact date, arguably notable that the mayor commented on his death.
Already done In the section Vito Trause#Time as prisoner of War, the article notes that he was liberated by American troops on May 2, 1945. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 05:25, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
In the lead, the date/timeframe needs to be more explicit. The line says he was captive for much of the war, but Trause was only prisoner for 5 months. Putting the timeframe he was captive would avoid the nondescript dates/timeline. Sorry if I wasn't clear the first time.
Done the lead has been updated to specifically note the date where he was liberated from the POW camp. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 22:07, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • World War II section could use some condensing. The Italian Campaign and Capture subsections are very short on their own.
@Etriusus: Do you think that the subsection regarding the time as a POW should be merged with the Italian Campaign and Capture subsection? — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 05:25, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ideally there needs to be some condensation. I personally would combine Training in Africa and Italian campaign and capture, calling the section 'Military service and capture'. You can also merge the Italian Campaign and POW sections, ultimately I'll leave it up to your discretion. Etriusus (Talk) 12:00, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Done. I've merged all the combat/imprisonment related information into one subsection with the title of "Military service and capture". — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 03:57, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • "foot amputated or dying" his foot dying or himself dying? Statement is unclear
Done the word order has been changed to dying or having his foot amputated to reduce ambiguity. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 05:25, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Put the memorial trust content in the death section, doesn't seem notable enough for its own subsection.
Done The two sections have been merged. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 05:25, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • I cannot find any relevance the See Also link: 'Cigarettes for Bread' has.
@Etriusus: In the Brookdale interview, Trause mentions that he was featured in that book. The book itself is a self-published memoir by one of his comrades from the POW camp, which is why it doesn't appear as a source within the article itself. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 05:25, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Cool, sounds good to keep. Please mention it in the article he was featured in the book. Etriusus (Talk) 12:03, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
    @Etriusus: I've added a note about his comrade's memoir. Does this resolve your concern? — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 04:17, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Here is a source that describes directly after his release from the camp [2]
  • An interview with Trause you may find interesting, he details how he was captured. [3]
@Etriusus: That series of interviews is currently used as a source in the article. If you would like me to, I would be more than happy to write up a short blurb about the particular mission he was on when he got captured, based off of that source. Do you think that this would improve the article? — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 05:25, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
The interview contains a fair bit of information about how he was captured. I only watched half way but there's a ton of good info in that interview that can be added to the article. Etriusus (Talk) 12:05, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Done I've added additional information that was in that interview, as well as supplementary information from public reporting. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 03:57, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • He was honored at Hoops for Troops [4]
Done I noticed that source while creating the article. I initially decided not to include it because I couldn't find a mention of that particular honor in other sources, but it seems like one bylined obituary actually does mention it. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 05:25, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

As a general note, the subsections could use some condensing. The prose is excellently written, I took the liberty of making some minor ce's, feel free to delete them if you disagree. I have some concerns about if the content is complete since a cursory search could find information on the Trause not mentioned in the article. I'll kick the article back to you. Also, where is the record of the first GA review, I don't see a proper archive of the link. Etriusus (Talk) 20:25, 4 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

The first GA review is at Talk:Vito Trause/GA1. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 05:25, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
I went ahead and fixed the article history template on the talk page. Etriusus (Talk) 12:37, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

I'm not going to argue the WP:NOTABILITY of this guy, it has been done to death. So far the answer is inconclusive at worst and speedy keep at best. Etriusus (Talk) 04:15, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Etriusus: Thank you for your review! I've left some comments above for what I've done in response and I've left a few questions for you so that I can make sure I fully understand your concerns before making edits to address them. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 05:25, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Mhawk10: obligatory ping, replied to your questions and did some work of my own. Etriusus (Talk) 12:39, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Etriusus: I've responded to your action items above. — Ⓜ️hawk10 (talk) 04:17, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Mhawk10: brilliant work!! Per usual, I made a few minor edits so please review them when you can. I'll give it one final pass but the article seems ready for GA status. Overall, well done, this was clearly hard-fought and you should be proud of your work. Etriusus (Talk) 01:43, 8 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
