Terminology edit
'Strangers' is the parliamentary term for people who aren't members of Parliament (MPs or Peers) and who aren't Officers of Parliament (staff) - in other words members of the public.
The Strangers gallery is therefore both for invited and uninvited members of the public to watch the proceedings - on popular occasions those without invitations can't gain entry.
Peers, Civil Servants, and the press all have other places where they can watch proceedings.
Possible inacuracy edit
The article suggests that the glass screen was erected after the Fathers 4 Justice protest. In fact, a screen was already in place but did not cover the entire gallery.... there was a 'ticketed' area in front of the screen in which "members of the House of Lords, their guests and MPs' guests" could sit.
Incorrect name edit
As part of the efforts to modernise Parliament, the Strangers' Gallery is now called the Public Gallery. Perhaps a new article and a redirect should be created? http://www.parliament.uk/visiting/attend/debates/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.195.126.183 (talk) 15:28, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
