edit

Why was the Southern Railway logo removed? Don't we want a visual representation of that entry in the Major intersections box? --Tim Sabin (talk) 18:39, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Article name edit

Why is the county name included in the name of the article? Is there another route 645 somewhere in Virginia? If not, this could be moved to Virginia State Route 645 with no problems. --LJ (talk) 18:47, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh, never mind. I didn't see the disambiguation page when writing that suggestion. --LJ (talk) 18:49, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Secondary Route Numbers edit

In Virginia, all secondary route numbers (almost all routes numbered 600+) are county-specific. When a route spans counties, VDOT attempts to keep the same route number, but this doesn't always happen. Thus, this article is about SR 645 (Fairfax County); there may be another SR 645 somewhere else in the state.

Sometimes cities and/or towns get in the way (cities can't have secondary routes, and towns may opt out of the VDOT system). Thus, there is a northern part of SR 613 (Fairfax County) separated from a southern part by the City of Alexandria. Likewise, there is SR 606 (Fairfax County) and SR 606 (Loudoun County) which would have been joined, but for the Town of Herndon. VDOT calls those roads SR 6656 (Herndon), but the're signed SR 606 (Fairfax County). But, in Clifton, SR 645 is SR 645 is SR 645.

Confused yet? :-) --Tim Sabin (talk) 19:07, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

HOV Interchange with I-66 edit

SR 645, Stringfellow Road just south of Fair Lakes, has a one-way HOV-only interchange with Interstate 66. This allows HOV traffic to enter I-66 eastbound in the morning rush hour, and accepts HOV traffic from I-66 westbound in the evening rush hour. I know that this interchange exists; I've taken it many times. You will see this one-way interchange if you travel southbound on Strigfellow Road and pass under I-66. --Tim Sabin (talk) 03:29, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
