I need to do some research (in other words, I might be wrong), but I don't think that 'pit viper' is synonomous with 'viper'. The redirect from 'Pit viper' to 'Viper' might (or might not) be suboptimum. I'll see what I can dig up. Brian Rock 16:18, Apr 3, 2004 (UTC)

What is described here is not one species of viper but all vipers. The bushmaster is a viper with its own article. The pit viper which is not only a snake but also a "a remotely operated cleanup system". Of the snake there are apparenly several among them Tropidolaemus wagleri, Wagler's pit viper. In an article I found this to identify "pit vipers": "The term "pit viper" refers to heat-sensing "pits" which occur on each cheek - these are used to locate prey. As with other pit vipers, this species has haemotoxic venom, meaning it is poisonous to the blood system.
You are right pit viper deserves its own page. GerardM 22:06, 3 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Should the Bushmaster be linked on both the Pit Viper page and this one? --Neonstarlight 03:02, 16 May 2004 (UTC)Reply
