Played at Stalin's funeral? edit
???
At Prokofiev's surely? Not at both, since apparently not only did they die on the same day, but their funerals were at the same time - and Oistrakh played the first and third movements of the F minor sonata at Prokofiev's sonata at the composer's funeral. Must have been quite a rush to be back-and-forth to Stalin's funeral, too, to play them there. Anyway, Stalin's favorite music wasn't Prokofiev, but Mozart... Odd! Source? Date of premiere edit
A release of what I assume was the Oistrakh/Oborin premiere (live recording, on Brilliant Classics 8713-51) gives the date January 1 1946- assuming this is accurate (not all of their dates are - they give a 1961 date for a Shostakovich 2nd cello concerto recording, 5 years before that work was composed, I believe), was the work finished on that day, or was it composed between 1938 and 1945?
