Prose, Spelling, Grammar, Manual of Style edit

Most references to metres, contain just m. The full word metre/s should be used. There are minor grammar and syntax issues such as:

  • Other(Another) serious environmental problems are(is) the impact of tourism development in recent decades.

In one particular sentence there are words that should be avoided. These include:

  • Although it seems a difficult target to reach, ecotourism development might be an ideal solution.

Neutrality edit

Many parts of the article are not neutral, and contain advertising, and biased viewpoints. These include:

  • It is characterized by the great number of secondary gullies and currents, and the rocky cliffs there form a stunning bas-relief.
  • The latter, which features some with quaint names such as the Hole of Odysseus.
  • Lozenge-shaped, elliptical, and polygonal cling floors enliven the otherwise unrelieved austerity of the grim, rectangular buildings intended to protect their inhabitants from the elements and to keep wolves and brigands away.
  • A particularly impressive stand of Scots pines can be found in the area of Gyftokampos.
  • Moreover, many hard-working and ambitious villagers emigrated to metropolitan centers and became members of successful professional classes.
  • The development of tourism in the Zagori area started in the 1970s, when the great ecological value and natural beauty of the area became widely known.
  • The present challenge is to combine tourism development in the area with the preservation of the rich natural and cultural heritage.
  • The park has great ecotourism and agrotourism potential, and a natural and man-made environment that forms a promising basis for sustainable development.
  • The rivers in the Vikos-Aoos area are a favorite destination for rafting and canoe-kayaking.
  • On the other hand, there are several climbing and hiking routes along easy paths in order to observe the area's unique natural features and architecture.
  • Well-known medical drugs have subsequently been developed from some of these plants

As a result many parts and certain subsections should be re-written.

Stability edit

The article is stable, and is not related to edit-warring or any other form of dispute.

Coverage edit

Although the article elaborates on the main issues of the subject, there are parts with unnecessary details that should be removed. The Settlements subsection and the Human History section should be reduced. Example from the Human History section:

  • However, Epirus, of which Vikos-Aoos is part, is considered one of the poorest and most underdeveloped regions in Greece. The development of tourism in the Zagori area started in the 1970s, when the great ecological value and natural beauty of the area became widely known.

As a consequence major edits will be required.

Images edit

Images contain no copyright issues, and are relevant to the article.

Accuracy & Verifiability edit

The phrase is/are considered is used in certain sentences without references.

  • There are as yet no large-scale touristic developments, but small and middle-scale initiatives for recreation facilities and improvement in accessibility are considered of high priority.

All these sentences should be referenced. There are paragraphs or parts of them, which are related to subjects, the articles of which contain no sufficient references. All these parts therefore should be referenced. Such are:

  • During the Ottoman occupation (15th-19th century), the local Greek Orthodox communities were granted special privileges by the Turks. At that time the area of Zagori acquired an autonomous status inside the Ottoman Empire, mainly due to its mountainous nature and inaccessible location.

The Koinon of the Zagorisians has only one reference. References for the section of the article related to it should be provided.
A sentence which could be considered original research(unless referenced) is:

  • The characteristic limestone formations in the region, together with the high altitudes and low elevation areas, have contributed to the creation of a unique variety of habitats for many important bird, animal and plant species.

Final Comment edit

The current state of the article, is certainly not the state of a GA. Major work will be needed, for it to become a GA. However, I am confident that it can reach GA status, if it is improved.--Alarichus (talk) 16:06, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
