Vietnamese Grand PrixVietnam Grand Prix – wish to request changing the name of the page to 'Vietnam Grand Prix' as this is the correct event title name. See https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.tickets-for-the-2020-vietnam-grand-prix-on-sale-now.acEhLhk8JWJ2bUehed4w5.html . • Comment: Actually Vietnam Grand Prix is the official name for the event not necessarily the correct one, the offical names are what you see when you go to buy the tickets (as you see here). In the same way that the Monaco Grand Prix isn't called the Grand Prix de Monaco and for next year the Mexico City Grand Prix (2020's new name for the event) will be detailed at Mexican Grand Prix. I know this isn't quite the same and I will need to consider before I pick a side but I just thought that I would point it out. Further I would point out that traditionally Grand Prix are named as belonging to a country (i.e Chinese, British, Italian etc.) and therefore Vietnamese Grand Prix may be a more natrual search term.

  • while this is not incorrect, our agency works in F1 and with F1 on several F1 races, including with the Vietnam Grand Prix itself - www.f1vietnamgp.com. It would surely make more sense for this page to reflect the actual name of the event as used by both the race promoter and the commercial rights holder (F1) rather than by an unofficial title that does not accurately reflect the name of the event. Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SMGTomC (talkcontribs) 12:09, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • @SMGTomC: our agency? Wikipedia is entirely independent to Formula One, we are simply an encylopedia which reports on Formula One. And the current article title is accurate even if it doesn't exactly replicate the official name.

  • apologies, our agency is the sports marketing group, www.sportsmarketinggroup.com and we represent 7 of the current F1 races including Vietnam. I guess all we are asking is that this page accurately reflects the official name of the event it relates to. While in general parlance, people may say 'Vietnamese Grand Prix', that is not in fact its name as shown on both the event website and F1's. Would it not therefore make more sense to have it as 'Vietnam Grand Prix' so it is consistent with the name of the event that the details on the page are all referring to? Thank you SMGTomC (talk) 15:30, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • I don't have a strong view either way but with respect, what the official name is is not relevant to what the article title should be. From WP:Article titles: "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources)". I don't know how independent sources will refer to the event in future, but a quick search on speedcafe gives [1] and [2] which both refer to "Vietnamese Grand Prix"... so for the change there would need to be independent sources using the term "Vietnam Grand Prix" (which I'm not saying any currently are or aren't). • I appreciate that. I just wanted to see if it was possible to have the page title accurately reflect the event that the content relates to as, although 'Vietnamese GP' is of course the correct use of English, there is officially no such thing as the 'Vietnamese GP' or a 'Grand Prix of Vietnam' and I thought that it would be better to use the actual event name that is being discussed in the article. Many thanks for your consideration regardless. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SMGTomC (talkcontribs) 10:50, 8 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - "Vietnamese Grand Prix" is the common name. There's no problem with using "Vietnamese" (meaning "of Vietnam") in the title (it doesn't offend any groups that I am aware of) and I don't think anyone uses "Grand Prix of Vietnam". The article can make the official title (which will presumably include a sponsor name) clear in the lead. -- Scjessey (talk) 13:06, 8 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Track layout edit

Is it correct to show a wrong track layout if we read An additional corner was later added to the third sector of the circuit by organisers for safety reasons, making a total of 23 turn in the article? Island92 (talk) 18:15, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
