Birthdate and first match

edit

I was obvious vandalism by 152.163.100.198, however, I noticed that the previous user, 70.224.166.40, had changed some details of Gagne:His birthday and first match location (see [1]). Does anyone know the real story here? --Hansnesse 04:05, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

According to the book, Top 100 Pro Wrestlers of All-Time, which was edited by Dave Meltzer, Gagne's first match was in Texas. There is some dispute as to when Gagne was born, I've seen as many sources list his birthday being 1926 as I have 1923.

In the new AWA DVD, Verne stated he was born in 1926.--DrRisk13 02:21, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth?

edit

A discrepancy exists between Verne Gagne's date of birth. Yahoo Search shows May 10, 1923 and Wikipedia shows February 26, 1926. Somebody ought to make a clarification. Musicwriter 02:05, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Once again, in a WWE produced DVD on the AWA, Verne (out of his own mouth) stated he was born in 1926.--76.24.239.1 (talk) 03:36, 19 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

'Accidental' Death Scandal

edit

Just breaking, but its important to get ready for a big edit:

http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=539943

Allegedly he threw a 97 year old fellow Resident of "Friendship Village" to the ground and that person has died from the injuries. 169.132.18.249 (talk) 17:36, 19 February 2009 (UTC) Aparently the family of the victim said that Verne had no idea what he was doing and that they feel sorry for him. His alzheimers must be really bad.Reply

Yeah, that makes sense. Imagine they get into an argument and suddenly he thinks he's back in the ring and performs a suplex on the guy or whatever.. the guy suffers from some broken bones that, at the age of 97, are not going to heal.

Messed up, but very interesting and pertinent. 169.132.18.249 (talk) 16:29, 20 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

The attack was not a wrestling move. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/W/WRESTLER_DEATH?SITE=ORBAK&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.143.49.201 (talk) 13:56, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

That link is 404. The source cited in the article says "Gagne picked up the diminutive and frail man and hurled him violently to the floor, breaking his hip." Since the source does NOT say he merely fell, but that he was thrown, I am changing the article. If a different source is cited or if someone finds reliable information otherwise, then revert my change. You can't say the man "fell" just because you like Verne Gagne. Ok, just before I edited the article, I decided to do a little more research, and in the SI.com source it says, "The attack -- which was not a wrestling body slam -- happened quickly while the men were at a table, Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said. It was more like "a push and a shove" and it caused Gutmann to fall, he said." So I'll put this info in the article, for clarity, because it had been widely reported that Gagne bodyslammed him. Apparently the man's widow said that, and she was not present when it happened. Tragic romance (talk) 03:18, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Death???

edit

Someone listed Verne Gagne date of death at July 29, 2009, yet there is no evidence that he in fact died.JeffCapo (talk) 19:18, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

edit

For some reason, though it looks correct, the mention of his Chronic Traumatic Encepholopy redirects to the Dementia Pugilistica article, which itself has a link in the first paragraph to the actual CTE article... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_traumatic_encephalopathy I'm not sure how to fix it, since it LOOKS right... but it's not. 214.3.138.234 (talk) 17:48, 25 October 2010 (UTC)SteveReply
