The current photo's a very pretty tourist snapshot from 2008 - wouldn't it be better to find a more recent image? The town doesn't look like that any more. 2.231.138.221 (talk) 23:21, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Update on Vernazza's Recovery From Mudslide Is Needed

edit

Although the article mentions that a flood and mudslide devastated Vernazza in 2011, it does not mention the successful efforts of citizens to clean up and repair the damage. As Rick Steves has noted, Vernazza has been restored to its former condition and beauty. Its citizens accomplished this through remarkable dedication, hard work and good planning. This is a fascinating saga and should have been detailed in the article. Steves added that the area's economy is largely based on tourism. It's important for travelers to understand that Vernazza is ready for visitors. Younggoldchip (talk) 13:37, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Picture of Vernazza???

edit

This photo also shows for Monterosso but I think it is really Vernazza. Can someone verify that this is really a photo of Vernazza? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.170.82.217 (talk) 09:02, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Verna, meaning "native", not referring to springtime

edit

Yes, there was a Latin word verna, feminine in form but it seems usually masculine in meaning, meaning "a slave born in his master's house". From this the rare word vernus which was sometimes used to mean "native" without any suggestion of slavery. See this reference. Yet far more commonly vernus means vernal, that is, relating to Springtime.

Do we know that Vernazza derives from vernus = native, and not from vernus = Spring-like? And do we know what the -azza ending derives from in Latin? Marcasella (talk) 07:56, 31 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
