Where is this available?

edit

Shouldn't this include information about which countries this is available in?

Social Component opt-in vs. opt-out

edit

"The transactions can be made private, but most users do not change the privacy settings, as it is an opt-in feature."

This sentence seems a bit confusing. I think it should be reworded to say that the social sharing feature is opt-out. I don't think privacy is the feature you have to opt-in to. I think social sharing is the feature you have to opt-out of. Something along the lines of, "The transactions can be made private, but most users do not change the privacy settings, as the news feed is an opt-out feature." --Anxiety35 (talk) 20:00, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Article Evaluation

edit

The Wikipedia article on Venmo is surprisingly small and limited. There are only four sections of writing. As we have discussed in class, Venmo is a huge form of banking media that is changing financial interactions between people and that is not mentioned in the article. It states that there are social aspects of venmo, but refuses to discuss innovative features such as requesting or blocking money from other people.[1] At this point in its life, the article does come off as biased. This is because it has three sections of writing (history, social component, and service) that are more flushed out and discuss the benefits of venmo. However, only one section, that is two sentences long, questions the security of venmo as a banking service. I would like to see this section, in particular, filled out with more research to make the article more impartial. The organization of the citations is clear and easy to follow. The sources used are reliable as well. How many users are on Venmo today? __Cmac0520 (talk) 17:27, 1 February 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmac0520 (talkcontribs)

Questions of security

edit

The Questions of Security section seems to be editorial and intended to criticize the security of the platform. The second paragraph is particularly bad:

Except financial security, information security and account privacy seem to be the worst part. Even if a user had set the maximum privacy settings on his account, other users could still find his account by searching for his name. What's more — even if a account is set to private — anyone who has the phone number can use it to find the user's full name, simply by initiating a transaction.[25] The principle of anonymity could not work in Venmo.

Introductory paragraphs

edit

The following sentence is very confusing: "Since 2008, cash transfers using Venmo were not instantaneous and could be canceled after an initial transfer is sent." This confusion stems from ambiguous use of the past tense and future tense elements of the English language. "Since 2008" is a future tense phrase. But the words "were not" is a past tense phrase. It is not all clear whether or not transfers are now instantaneous or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mulehide (talkcontribs) 03:12, 26 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Available in????

edit

I have had to read up to the ELEVENTH paragraph to get the idea it is only available, at most, in the USA, at it says it asks for a US mobile phone number. Shouldn't it be stated in the first line, maybe?

History

edit

Shouldn't the opening paragraph discussing the start of the idea of Venmo mention dates? Ssalava42 (talk) 15:48, 19 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
