Usable in single-zone split systems?

edit

Is VRF technology useful (efficiency, lowering cost, etc.) in single-zone split-system air conditioners? The article implies that it might only be useful in multiple-zone split systems, but it seems that some efficiency gains might be made using the idea on single zone systems. Is it used this way? Article implies a lot of things and many of these implications are due to information pollution caused by prohibited original research by Wikipedia editors. We need to find references and summarize the information and only the information presented in sources. If sources differ in what they present, we simply report what different sources say, so the audience can conclude for themselves rather than brainwashing them with optimism and sales driven contents produced by the industry. Currently I'm trying to get a good definition of VRF. The trade meaning and literal meaning maybe different. In the literal sense, a VRF is anything other than fixed output compressor through fixed orifice tube. Single evaporator system that can modulate capacity by altering the refrigerant flow like auto AC that uses variable displacement compressor or multi-stage single evaporator system both vary refrigerant flow Cantaloupe2 (talk) 07:07, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

“invented”...

I’m skeptical of this claim. Automobile A/C compressors have been a different variable volume design for a very long time. The automobile A/C is driven at a rate proportional to the engine RPM that varies as much as 10:1 without regard to A/C demand. The compressor uses a large number of small pistons and a “swash plate” to vary the piston stroke. The compressor is driven through an electrically operated clutch. A fixed stroke pump able to move enough refrigerant when idling at a traffic light on a hot day would be cycling the clutch rapidly at any other time and the clutch would wear out very quickly. There have long been variable volume designs for commercial refrigeration, like supermarket cases, although the scheme is usually to have several pumps and to vary the number in operation. That turns out to be a somewhat complex scheme in order to use the machines equally. There is also a complicated scheme to pump some of the refrigerant to storage when a compressor turns off to keep the amount of refrigerant proportional to the number of compressor sales on operation. The last paragraph in “Description”, just before the “Japan” section, is hard to understand. The English needs to be rewritten and restructured so that the actual discussion and intent are clear. 99.8.65.24 (talk) 05:31, 26 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
