This listing is inaccurate with the person's Wikipedia page. There is no mention of this person being a "Filipino-America" on that page and there is no official status given to this person by the US government. He is a Filipino journalist working in the United States. This needs to be changed. I have tried to change it once already but someone who obviously doesn't want to read the page that this links to keeps changing it back. NaturalEquality (talk) 00:35, 19 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
This appears to concern Jose Antonio Vargas. The most important point to consider is this: who cares whether a person "Born in the Philippines and raised in the United States from the age of twelve" should be described as "Filipino-American" or "Filipino"? Given that the disambiguation page needs to use as few words as possible while describing the subject in a recognizable manner, "Filipino-American" seems best. Please click "new section" at the top of the page when adding a new topic. Johnuniq (talk) 04:12, 19 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
""Filipino-American" seems best" is not a world standard. There are millions of people living around the world in other nations for decades if not their entire lives and they are not identified by your standard. They are identified by the fact that they have citizenship in those nations or that their parents come from two nations. Jose Vargas does not meet either of these standards. He is Filipino. It's that simple. If you want to add correct detail based on English language and world standards, you could identify him as a Filipino living in the US. There are many Filipinos and others living in the US who have lived there for as long as he has and they choose not to attain citizenship and do not use the title 'Filipino-American' to describe themselves. I am only arguing facts. With this I am going to change the main page and add Jose Vargas's correct identification. NaturalEquality (talk) 03:28, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
What is the agenda? Vargas is not an American. The agenda seems to be pushed by some on Wikipedia. As NaturalEquity noted there are millions of people around the planet who have lived in nations not of their birth who do not identify and are not identified as having two nationalities to describe themselves. There is no rational for Jose Vargas to be entitled to special treatment. Consider all the refugees around the world who do not identify and are not identified as having the nationalities of the nations they live in. By keeping the description as 'Filipino-American', there should be a reason for it. Is there even one more person on Wikipedia who is listed in this same way despite not having citizenship? I can't find information on Ivan de "Martin," if that's even his real name. Any information I can find calls him Ivan de Vargas. Rendite (talk) 01:38, 4 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
