Inaccurate photo edit

The photo of Ronald Fisher shows him having facial hair on his cheeks when the definition of a Van Dyke Beard states that the cheeks are clean shaven. If anyone can correct this or prove me wrong, please do so.

In case anyone wishes to compare, it was this one. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:07, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Napoléon III edit

Surely, the Emperor of the French, Napoléon III, should be on that wiki.

Spelling conventions edit

The original artist was called Van Dyck, and the beard is sometimes spelled in this way, so I'm going to add that spelling to other possible spelling conventions. See here: Life magazine beards. --Jwslubbock (talk) 11:55, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Spelling edit

Both the OED and Chambers 20th Century Dictionary spell it Vandyke. DuncanHill (talk) 18:14, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

In this article, I would like to see the answer to "How did it get to be spelt that way if it's named after Van Dyck?". Grassynoel (talk) 16:20, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

You could, in note 1 - now promoted to text. Johnbod (talk) 16:46, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

World Beard and Moustache Championships edit

I note with dismay that the WBAMS seems to prefer "Goatee Natural". Martinevans123 (talk) 18:30, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

That's not the same at all "The goatee appears as it grows naturally. The more natural the better! The goatee and moustache may be maintained but without any styling aids." The VD beard is trimmed and often pointed, & I would imagine requires plenty of "styling aids". Johnbod (talk) 18:37, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, you are quite right of course, my dismay arose from the complete lack of a category. I should have put the "Goatee Natural" (amongst others). But I must say your rather trimmed "VD beard" abbreviation doesn't sound very appealing. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:03, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Well good luck in the competition anyway. Johnbod (talk) 23:20, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much. I'm actually thinking of entering a Fully Freddy. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:24, 21 September 2018 (UTC) Reply
