Named After Spanish towns edit

Considering I'm citizen of the first Valparaíso, one the most Pacific ports of the 19th century (mentioned many times by Jules Verne) i'm in the obligation to ask whether the US Valparaiso are named after the Spanish towns (where presumably Juan de Saavedra - Valparaíso's bay discoveror was born) or after the Chilean seaport (obligated stop to any ship that wanted to cross the Southern passages).
