Poor contribution in edit war edit

The repeated reinstatement of this material is a fairly gross breach of our policies. Much of it is quite simply unsourced (see WP:V) and that which is sourced is not reliably so. In addition, there are misrepresentations of the sources, circular references and synthesis.

When I removed the content a few days ago I left what I thought were entirely reasonable edit summaries, breaking the issues down into a series of edits rather than just deleting the lot in one hit. Is there something that the reinstator does not understand? - Sitush (talk) 15:59, 28 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Ok I understand thank you :)Rohinisinghaliya (talk) 16:51, 28 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

POV fork edit

This article is a POV fork of Chuhra. The history itself (including protection) demonstrates the ongoing Dalit campaign for retitling etc but the fact remains that the common name is indeed Chuhra. While the Chuhra article has itself been a mess, mostly due to synthesis trying to connect it to the Mazhabi Sikh, there is absolutely no need for us to have two articles about what are certainly the same community. - Sitush (talk) 04:30, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I cant say I understand it entirely, but the sources I am finding suggest a more complex picture than Chuhra and Balmiki simply being the same. There seems to be some very complicated identity politics going on around this term. Definitely there are many sources that use the term without relating it explicitly to Chuhra. Also the relation to the "sect" of the same name seems to be complex, and not necessarily possible to distinguish from the caste community. I am not sure how to proceed.·maunus · snunɐɯ· 03:57, 19 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yep. I've been reading around in preparation for doing more work on it. There has been a lot of to-ing and fro-ing going on, perhaps because Chuhra can be used generically - sweeper - as well as for a specific caste community. I will keep reading but one certainty is that Wikipedia is seeing an influx of people contributing to dalit-related articles with a POV that is at least as bad as that found among the Rajputs, the Brahmins and the aspirant kshatriya communities. Sooner or later, we have to get a grip. - Sitush (talk) 04:30, 19 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
I agree with User:Sitush. I have gone ahead and merged what is not duplicated here with the Chuhra article. I hope this helps. With regards, AnupamTalk 15:27, 26 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Agree that this is indeed a POVFORK, most other castes are known as such are marginal. I would be redirecting this to the main article which is better sourced and well-maintained. Gotitbro (talk) 02:15, 20 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
How can you redirect like this. In South India, we never heard the term Chuhra. Please understand, Valmiki's are a cluster of communities and not a single community. Redirecting doesn't make any sense. - MRRaja001 (talk) 11:45, 12 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Semi-protected edit request on 21 January 2024 edit

The South India Column you mentioned in the Wikipedia Page does not correspond actually in real life, there in no relevance or common history shared between people of Balmiks in Punjab and Traditionally Warrior Class Boya Valmiki Caste, who takes roots from Valmiki as he initially considered a hunter named ‘Ratnakar’. Boya Valmikis is a subcaste consisting of many brotherly castes who share maritial relations and brotherly relations, with Boya,Bedar,Valmiki,Kirataka, Yellapu,Pala Ekaris

who have been traditionally has ruled many places as ruler placed by emperor. they also traditionally took up Zamindari Posts, Palegallu which translates to a local chieftain who helps people from bandits, Huntsmen and Warriors of Sorts, traditionally they are never under brahminical influence and are considered as Vratya Kshatriyas, while Valmikis down south used to work as priests in local temples and are considered as ‘Niyogi Brahmins’ in Olden Days where they take up schooling from Pandit Brahmans , they don’t come up from or consider themselves completely Brahmins as many of these populace are not under brahminical influences and many people in same caste does multiple occupations of their choice, they come somewhere between Brahmins and Kshatriyas In South India (Andhra Pradesh,Karnataka,Tamil Nadu) they are collectively grouped as they have brotherly bonds, they are not shudras like (Reddys,Kammas,Kapus) as lot of these castes are traditionally (farming / agrarian) caste not from traditional warrior caste, your page has some misleading contents which we would like to correct, grouping us with Balmiks, which are schedule castes, is not correct because we don’t share any history, they just adapted the name of ‘Maharishi Valmiki’ but we claim that as per Traditional Records that ‘Ratnakar’ a huntsmen belong to Boya,Bedar,Kirataka,Yellapu Caste (or any parallel caste with same occupation but no common history) and Valmiki Caste, takes the naming of (‘Maharishi Valmiki’ as our forefather), who take up priest jobs and schooling of Vedas and (they used to be Boya Brahmanas in Olden days) as their common history made them collectively as ‘Boya Valmikis’ Not just taking up name just for the sake, we are nowhere related to the above Balmiki Caste and would like to have not associated or sharing of page as it is demeaning our history please remove that column or give the clear differentiation not just collectively grouping them as same caste, we request you to not group us as we are not related to them in any way.
