Valery OişteanuValery Oisteanu — He has not used ș in his name since he left Romania about 40 years ago. It is easy to check this by looking at the covers of his books (f. ex. http://www.bigbridge.org/issue6/bios.htm)Mycomp (talk) 00:27, 30 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose - Wikipedia, unlike most English-language publications, used diacritics for Romanian names. His name is Oişteanu, it is pronounced that way, "Oisteanu" doesn't exist as a name, and we should reflect that. - Biruitorul Talk 04:48, 3 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Support, Wikipedia should use the name this man publishes under in English, especially given that he writes in English and lives in the United States. Most readers will be more familiar with the unaccented name. See WP:ENGLISH.Erudy (talk) 18:30, 12 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per WP:DIACRITICS. Follow the usage in English-language sources, which in this case has been clearly demonstrated. Jafeluv (talk) 05:32, 27 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Valery Oi"s"teanu edit

In my personal opinion, it would make sense to standardize on wikipedia his name's spelling. I will assume that on his birth certificate it says "Oișteanu" not "Oisteanu". I can understand if a non-romanian wouldint understand how to pronounce "ș", but in that case spell it "Oishteanu".

My 2 solutions are standardize it as "sh" or "ș". Both work. This issue applies to a ton of articles most likely, i will try to vocalise it.
