Recordings

Could someone verifty the first sentence in this section - given that the original soloists would have been about 80 years old, I find this remarkable - or was it a typo (which has now been copied all over the internet)? Cg2p0B0u8m (talk) 00:58, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand. The premiere was in 1898, the creators made a recording in 1907. Have I misread something? --Kleinzach 23:57, 22 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

The date problem I pointed out was corrected by 217.169.1.80 (talk) on 23 March 2009. Cg2p0B0u8m (talk) 01:04, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Can you explain what you mean by "over-blown"? -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:17, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have paraphrased Traubner’s "during the German Occupation it was revived at the Mogador (1942) in a production à grand spectacle which overpowered its fragility" to "over-blown". Given the meaning in Traubner’s words I think this is fair.Cg2p0B0u8m (talk) 21:50, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think it's confusing. Thanks for the explanation: I'll try a slight change. -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:56, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Musical numbers

edit

Except for the actual names of the songs, shouldn't the other information in the list of musical numbers be translated into English, for example "chorus"? -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:27, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

London cast

edit

The statement that Isabel Jay was in the 1904 London cast, later replaced by Ruth Vincent is, I think, incorrect. Both The Times (19 May 1904, p. 10) and The Manchester Guardian (19 May 1904, p. 12) reviewing the premiere of the English version state that Ruth Vincent played Véronique (exceedingly well, by both accounts). I know not The Play Pictorial, cited as reference for the existing wording, but I suspect that our two most authoritative daily organs must outweigh it. — Tim riley (talk) 08:39, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree that Vincent originated the role in London. I just added a scan of the musical score to the article and it lists the original cast as starring Vincent. However, some sources say that Isabel Jay played the role. See this and this. Perhaps she replaced Vincent? Or perhaps she was in another company? Here is a photo of the original company, but I can't make out the caption, can you? Here is an example of The Play Pictorial, featuring Messager, but it is about The Little Michus, not Veronique. -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:30, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Your edit is, I think, most judicious. — Tim riley (talk) 18:08, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
