NPOV edit

i'm not particulary fond of the DPRK, but this article does not respect NPOV. 95.234.53.67 (talk) 16:25, 27 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I made some edits which hopefully took care of the NPOV issues so I went ahead and removed the NPOV tag. If anyone still has concerns feel free to add it back in. aqwfyj Talk/Contribs 00:17, 29 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Translation of name edit

A better translation for Uriminzokkiri would seem to be "Among our people". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.51.185.47 (talk) 13:48, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

People would be translated "In" or "Saram". Reliable sources say that "Uriminzokiri" means "Our race alone". – Illegitimate Barrister, 22:52, 3 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
not people as in person/human being, but people as in "Korean people," the disambiguation page for minjok states "Minjok, which means 'nation', 'people', 'ethnic group', 'race', and 'race-nation'." There's definitely nothing that even implies the word "alone." It's "among our people" or "among our race" or "Korean people together" or "our people united" etc etc all of which are fitting translations. :3 F4U (talk) 17:23, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy Deletion AC3 edit

I chose to put this under ac3 seeming as the references are unrelated and the article gives little information on the subject. In conjunction with this, this subject has little to no importance. (apart from in North Korea, obviously) Anyone agree? ∫ A Y18:42, 31 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

The article is a stub, but it certainly has content and reliable references. It does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion so I have removed the template. aqwfyj Talk/Contribs 18:45, 31 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

The other 7, etc. edit

Hi, listen, the Anonymous hacking group preserved their malicious version of Uriminzokkiri on a site with one less letter, Uriminzokiri, which still stands today, even after the original hacked site restored its original version. Just go to Uriminzokiri and see for yourself. By the way, the source would be a video from CNN.com. --70.179.161.230 (talk) 20:17, 8 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I am not doubting the veracity of this statement. But Wikipedia is not a newspaper. Information in articles must be encyclopedic, and information about the hacking event is already in the article. aqwfyj Talk/Contribs 22:13, 8 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
If anyone wants to see what the hacked version looked like, how else do you expect them to find it other than by being shown the preserved site (that has just 1 K?) It will add information and be more helpful because then users will find out what it looked like. --70.179.161.230 (talk) 22:59, 8 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
It boils down to notability. That link is simply not encyclopedic. If you still think it belongs in the article, you can ask for a third opinion or request additional comments.

Content provided by Uriminzokkiri edit

The first sentence currently reads "Uriminzokkiri (우리민족끼리) is a website that provides Korean language news from North Korea's central news agency." User:71.191.189.195 just removed the word "propaganda" from that sentence. However, Uriminzokkiri also distributes other material, such as music (for example this – a random song I found in the recent uploads). Also, some Youtube clips clearly contain the logo of the Korean Central Television (see e.g. this just to pick something random). It therefore seems that Uriminzokkiri distributes North Korean material from multiple sources, not just the Korean Central News Agency. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:45, 23 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Uriminzokkri YouTube channel terminated, new channel pops up edit

Hello, all.

I'd like to share a recent development with the presence of Uriminzokkri on YouTube.

Their old channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/uriminzokkiri/

This channel was terminated weeks ago "due to a legal complaint". Here is an article about it. https://news.vice.com/story/we-investigated-the-mysterious-death-of-north-koreas-youtube-channels

However, a few weeks ago, Uriminzokkri has opened a new YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp6AkyfN3ooSvmXl9L4Nfcg/videos

The proof for this new channel being owned by Uriminzokkri come from new YouTube video links on their website http://uriminzokkiri.com/ which has links to YouTube uploads, which in turn, come from the new channel.

If anyone can replaced the current YouTube link with the new one without problems, that would be great.

  • Some links still go to the old Youtube channel, but the Youtube logo after the headline at [1] goes to [2] which is hosted on the new channel. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:02, 23 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • There are links to the old Youtube channel from several articles about North Korean propaganda songs (for example, Song of General Kim Il-sung). What do we do with these links? WP:LINKVIO prevents us from linking to copyright violations, so we don't really have any other choices. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:10, 23 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Name / Etymology edit

There is an etymology section that gives the name a kind of mysterious aura as the section is quite long compared to the content depth of the article. It gives quite much weight to it. But actually, I think the meaning of the name is quite simple. The name is a direct reference to the Three Principles of National Reunification. Or, more specifically, to the June 15th North–South Joint Declaration, which rephrases the first principle. As the English wikipedia already correctly noted in the infobox, the owner is the Korea 615 Shenyang Co. and the editor the Korea June 15 Edition Company. The founding of Uriminzokkiri is a direct result of the June 15th North–South Joint Declaration. The full meaning is basically "achieving reunification through/with the Korean people without relying on external forces/interferences". Therefore, the German wikipedia offers the translation "Durch unser Volk selbst" which is a almost genius translation. Not sure if "through our (own) people" would make sense in English, though. Actually, I think "among our people" is a quite fitting translation. The South Korean reunification institute also has a dictionary for North Korean terms. https://www.uniedu.go.kr/uniedu/home/brd/bbsatcl/nknow/view.do?id=31962&mid=SM00000536&limit=10&eqViewYn=true The etymology section nicely breaks down the phrase into possible interpretations, however, I wanted to point out that the name actually just refers to the first paragraph of the June 15th North–South Joint Declaration and the words of Kim Il-sung on reunification. --Christian140 (talk) 15:27, 12 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
