Talk:Urban rail transit in China

Confusing name edit

According to Wikipedia itself, "rapid transit" means "a passenger transport system in an urban area with a high capacity and frequency, and grade separation from other traffic," which generally equals "metro" or "subway." Whereas this article included systems other than metro, such as commuter rail and tram, which are not typically rapid transit. I suggest that we either move this page to "Urban rail transit in China" since the term urban rail transit includes all these systems, or delete those systems other than metro from this article. --Howchou (talk) 17:42, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I agree, we should change the title article to urban rail transit. Terramorphous (talkcontribs) 04:17, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Order of cities edit

Currently the order of Metro (rapid transit) systems - Currently Operational section seems to be roughly in the order that they opened though Dalian and Hong Kong seem to be out of sync. I would like to suggest that this section be re-ordered alphabetically. This will make it easier for users to find the city and information they want.

On a different point. I counted 216 opening <div> and 291 closing </div> tags. Shouldn't they be equal in number? The issue appears to be that we have before the tables:

<div class="NavFrame collapsed" style="clear: both; border:0;">
<div class="NavHead" style="background:#FFCC99">operational lines in Beijing</div>
<div class="NavContent" style="text-align: left;">

then after the tables we have:

</div></div></div>

Notice the closing tag after the word Beijing thus <div class="NavHead"> has been closed before the table begins so below the table should be just two closing tags for <div class="NavFrame"> and <div class="NavContent">

The current order is easier for users to see which new system(s) opened. Sorting alphabetically will make this nearly impossible. Users can always use in-text search or this alphabetically-sorted template to find the information they want.--Howchou (talk) 15:36, 30 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
The current order does not match the date of opening. As pointed out in my statement above, several cities are out of sync. Forcing users to rely on browser based search is not good practice. Users are not looking to see which new systems opened. The is a encyclopaedia not a newspaper. Template:Urban rail transit in China only proves that alphabetical is a good idea. Well, after re-reading this article, I noticed that the order is not chronological at all, especially the first few which should be Beijing, Hong Kong, Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Shenzhen, etc. You can go ahead if you want to put it in alphabetical order.--Howchou (talk) 02:43, 4 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Inconsistent colour coding edit

The Bus system section says "BRT systems with light blue background are not yet operational but under construction or proposed." where as the high speed rail section says "Operational lines are marked with green background." Note the similarity of the colours with completely opposite meanings. Can we change this so that we use consistent colouring for the same meaning in both sections. Bus is not rail edit

Noting that above the original name was changed form rapid transport to urban rail, however there remains a section about Bus Rapid Transport (BTR) systems in the article. Bus is not rail. Either the article title should change again to a more inclusive one or the BTR section should be re-homed in another article. Rincewind42 (talk) 02:39, 5 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Shenzhen and Hong Kong edit

Why are Shenzhen and Hong Kong treated as one and not separate as per the other systems. OK the are in close proximity but they are two separate systems, separate companies, with an border between them. Rincewind42 (talk) 02:59, 5 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

It is technically possible to argue that the two systems are transferable at two stations, and one line in Shenzhen is run by MTR as well. But I do support a separation between them for the border control.--Howchou (talk) 04:10, 5 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Intro Citation problem edit

The intro cites an article from 2010 for a figure that it claims is from 2009-2015. The inconsistency is obvious. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.241.83.30 (talk) 01:36, 21 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
