Clarification needed edit

The tenses are unclear in this article. For example, the lede uses "was", yet from the article I gather the project was not abandoned and is not yet complete; wouldn't something like "is a multi-stage project that began in 19XX" be clearer and more accurate? I do think some indication of date is needed in the lede. Also my reading of Stages 1 and 2 is that they have been completed, but this is not clearly reflected in the tenses. In Stage 3, has the hydro-electric plant merely been considered, or does the contract mentioned immediately after apply to that plant? I've also linked a number of units that are not clear to non-experts and/or those not from the Indian subcontinent. The abbreviation FIR I had to leave because I could only guess it means Freedom of Information Request, but that isn't listed at our FIR DAB page. Maybe it should be, but it would be clearer not to abbreviate this. Yngvadottir (talk) 21:17, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

The the first sentence uses "was" because the agitation for this kind of project was started in 1950-1960 and in the overview you can see that the foundation stone was laid in 1964. The official inauguration of the project was in 2006. I could not get any proper source which would give me the exact date on which the government decided to implement this project. The stage 3 was not present in the initial plan of the project and god knows how many more stages are yet to come. The hydro-electric plant is not part of the stage 3 but of the initial plan(stage 1 and 2) the installation of the plant is completed. I saw your corrections and thanks a lot, units like lakh and crore are very common to the Indian subcontinent. Tmcft is not very common, apologies for that, I am used to such terms so I forgot to link it. FIR is First information report and I have linked it now. Thanks again.--sarvajna (talk) 21:49, 3 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Inconsistent numbering edit

This has a mixture of commas being used to separate the thousands and hundreds digit in the usual English fashion ( for example 4,500 is four thousand five hundred) , and using a comma as the decimal point in the German fashion ( 4,500 is four and a half) . Needs to be fixed. There is no plausible way that this project is irrigating 197,000 square kilometres of land.Eregli bob (talk) 13:51, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I have made the changes, areas were present few in hectares and others in KMsq now I have converted all to Kilo Meter square --sarvajna (talk) 15:47, 5 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
