University of Wisconsin–La Crosse → University of Wisconsin-La Crosse – Converting from a CFDS for the parent cat made by IP user User:8.29.49.5. The university style guide is unambiguous: The phrase University of Wisconsin-La Crosse should have a hyphen (with no space preceding or following it) between the words Wisconsin and La Crosse. It also notes that an endash is incorrect.

In 2018, a move along these lines was proposed and immediately rejected by User:Corkythehornetfan with the comment, "We don't go by how the university wants stylized." The same user reverted a change to the lead sentence this week.

In Talk:Heriot-Watt University#Requested move 8 May 2022, a request to change a hyphen TO endash was disapproved because official style used a hyphen.

I'm unsure how I feel about this—I lean support—but I am certain that the way forward on this one is to bring it to RM and get consensus. Hat tip to IP User:8.29.49.5 for bringing this up at CFDS. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 23:52, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

• Weak support: WP:OFFICIALNAMES needs consideration. Are there reliable secondary sources that use the hyphen? If so will remove the 'weak'. However, per MOS:ENDASH I think this is a straightforward application of Generally, use a hyphen in compounded proper names of single entities., but there were plenty of people who disagreed in the Heriot-Watt discussion.   And? I haven’t seen you provide any sources. Other articles I’ve found are either from the school itself or some poor website that has no importance. This is Wikipedia, not the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse so we don’t have to go by their style guide. Corky 18:44, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
