University Alumni

edit

John Abizaid, former Commander of the United States Central Command is not a JU graduate. He did have a language crash course at the center of consultation and training; an independent center located within JU campus. The center is run by JU, That's it. Its courses graduates have noting to do with the University itself. I am removing his name from the Alumni list. -Tarawneh (talk) 13:51, 25 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

University Motto

edit

The Motto of the University of Jordan in Arabic is Aya 151 in Surah Al-Baqarah in The Holy Quran: ﴾وَيُعَلِّمُكُمُ الْكِتابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ﴿

I'm trying to find an accurate (or as much accurate) translation of this Aya. Since it's an Aya from the Quran I don't want have any mistakes in my translation and make sure the context is presented to the reader.

I've researched the tafsirs of the Aya, mainly the tafsirs of Ibn-Katheer and Al-Tabri which you find in the website quran.ksu.edu.sa . I've also researched for the most accurate English translation of the Quran and found the following website QuranEnc.com, which I hope has the most accurate and correct translation, with what I hope was enough to allow me to translate the Aya; this is the translation I was able to achieve:

﴾وَيُعَلِّمُكُمُ الْكِتابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ﴿  : And He (Prophet Muhammad PBUH) teaches you the Book (Quran) and wisdom (Sunah)

My translation differs slightly from that of the English Quran, also الْحِكْمَةَ can be either the teachings of the Quran itself (الفقه) or the teaching of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH (السنة) based on the tafsirs of the the Islamic scientists mentioned above. I don't want to make an edit that might be controversial, this is why I opted to post the issue to the talk page first so all editors and users can have a fruitful discussion.

If no discussion happened regarding this issue I'll choose to not change the present motto in the article. Thank you for reading. -SerenityAndPatience (talk) 20:45, 06 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
