Yours truly went to school here. Despite all the problems the school had, especially in my last year there (1999), I still miss the place.

President

...he current President of the University is the Rev. Jeffrey Bullock: his wife gave money to Jim Nussle, the adultery-drenched presumed front-runner for the Republican nomination for Governor of Iowa. Bullock has problems with the Ten Commandments; clearly, he regards them as voluntary: murder, etc., would seem to be part of his package for the transformation of UD..."
I have no love for Jim Nussle - or for that matter most Republicans - myself, but statements such as the ones above that I just removed aren't really appropriate for a Wikipedia article. I doubt that they would conform to NPOV standards.

Presumption

I looked at some of the most recent revisions to this article. I think its presumption to speak for graduates of the University of Dubuque by saying what graduates feel about the Nussle family or the President of the University. If most graduates feel that way, then whoever wants to state that in this article should give proper and verifiable sources.

Wendt / Dr. Jefferies

Upon looking at the article this evening, I found that the anonymous [1] had made additions about the Dr. Paul Jeffries and the controversy over his tenure [2]. In the interests of maintaining a neutral point of view I didn't completely remove the addition, but instead reworded the additions to briefly summarize what was going on.

Encyclopedia article, not opinion page!!

It seems that several recent additions to the article have taken on a decidedly negative opinion on the University of Dubuque. As far as I can tell, user "Iowanflyer" is responsible. I have removed the most ridiculous comments, (which were all made with no references, of course), to give the article a more neutral tone. The Univeristy of Dubuque is not without its flaws, but the article is not an opportunity to rant against it, either!! DBQer 21:22, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

I have also trimmed down the section on the death of a UD student from drinking, as it had less to do with the University and more to do with the student. Also, three links to stories on the student's death was too much, one will do. People, think: Write about the school, not individual people or events loosely associated with it!! Awkward/unorganized listing of schools/majors

I'm going to delete the majors/programs listing at the top of the page. It looks crummy, as well as not being properly formatted.

rebuttal

I was a student at UD for four years and what I put in the article was a reflection on what I saw at UD. I have no ill will towards the school, and genuinely enjoyed my time there. However, most of what is happening at the school in terms of alcohol related events are extremely newsworthy, especially for prospective students and their parents. I put the "current events" tag up for a reason -- it documented a current event that was extremely related to the University. If you found my stuff slanted, fine, but you could have just cleaned it up a bit instead of deleting it all. Who made you the UD wikinazi? There are talk pages for a reason, to discuss specific article deletions and modifications before they happen. I don't see how you could say what I wrote wasn't related to the University, and I know by experience the attitudes of the students that I wrote about.

Also, I was only responsible for the portions about alcohol -- I had nothing to do with the "criticisms of UD" portion, although I do think they were also worthy of being in the article. Being objective means telling each side of the story, and you can't list the good that has been happening at UD (the rennovations, new buildings and dorm remodeling) without the bad (administrative turmoil, tenure issues, and the like).

You took it upon yourself to delete very real and important issues that are affecting the University. Iowanflyer 16:32, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Neutrality/Sources

The entire section of "Recent Controversy" has not one single source. The section talks about one Dr. Jeffries, a professor at the university who it claims was unfairly "dismissed." Now I am not sure if this is Dr. Jeffries himself writing the section, or a sympathizer, but there still needs to be some sort of verifiable source to confirm the claims. You cannot just make random claims without backing them up! If this was such a strong controversy, surely there will be stories on it. This seems to portray the university in a negative light, and it would seem to violate the Neutral point of view policy, especially without sources to back it up. There was a similar problem with the student alcohol thing: IF YOU HAVE AN AGENDA AGAINST UD, WRITE IT IN YOUR DIARY, NOT ON WIKIPEDIA!DBQer 23:40, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

addition of sources

Okay, references have been added. I had to use the "what wendt wrong" blog as a source because all of the actual articles (there were numerous) have been archived in the Dubuque Telegraph Herald and aren't available online without paying exorbitant sums for a wiki-source. I deleted the unreferenced tag, but kept the neutrality one...I would remove that as well but since I wrote it (and I am not paul jeffries, nor a sympathizer), it seems like someone else should do that...

shouldn't there be a separate section for the wendt center...aside from the mention in the controversial one... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.203.45.91 (talk) 04:03, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Removing POV tag

Tt's been well over a year, and no further comments on the POV issue. I'm removing the tag. If anyone still finds an POV issue, re-add the tag and post your issue(s) here. –RHolton13:22, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
