Talk:Universität Berlin

I don't understand why Universität Berlin redirects to the rather short article Frederick William University but the equivalent phrase in English, University of Berlin redirects to Humboldt University of Berlin. (I actually don't understand why Frederick William University is its own article and not itself just a redirect to Humboldt University, but I'll leave that to another discussion.) I'd like to change this redirect to Humboldt, but I'd like to establish a consensus, first. Remes (talk) 23:58, 10 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

It's even worse than I thought: Universitaet Berlin and Universität Berlin redirect to different articles, so the reader who happens to use an umlaut gets Frederick William University and the reader who spells the identical word differently gets HU Berlin. I still feel that the article Frederick William University should be deleted, since it claims a discontinuity between the FWU and the HU that is simply not historically true. The early history of the University of Berlin should be covered at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. I proposed deletion, but no consensus was found since only me and the creator of that page chipped into the discussion. However, I also feel that there should be a disambiguation page for all of the Berlin universities to help readers who might not be aware that there is more than one in Berlin. I've changed this redirect. I agree with you that Frederick William University should redirect to HU Berlin. I understand why people have strong feelings, but from the perspective of a reader, it makes much more sense for there to be one article, not two. Remes (talk) 03:06, 14 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
