Universal Motown vs. Universal Republic

It seems that Universal Records is split into two side: Universal Motown and Universal Republic. That being said, I don't know how accurate it is to refer to the overall setup as Universal Motown Records Group-only. Does anyone have any more information to shed light on this? —The Real One Returns 01:35, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Universal republic logo.JPG

Image:Universal republic logo.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Company Restructured

There seems to be some back and forth with editing of this page. Universal Motown Records was moved under Island Def Jam recently. This ultimately leaves Universal Republic Records as its own label under UMG. This article explains the change:

Also there is information on UMG's site which is a list of UMG Labels. This list used to include Universal Motown on it, but now it lists Universal Republic instead. The Island Def Jam site does not include Universal Motown Records artists on its roster yet. I would assume they have not updated it yet.

Here is a list on the UMG website of its labels, which clearly shows the absence of Universal Motown and instead shows Universal Republic:

Merge discussion for Universal Republic Records

An article that you have been involved in editing, Universal Republic Records , has been proposed for a merge with another article. If you are interested in the merge discussion, please participate by going [[ <discussion page where merger proposal is being discussed> |here]], and adding your comments on the discussion page. Thank you. MusicGeek101 (talk) 19:44, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

The Universal Motown Republic page should be merged with the Universal Republic records page. Motown Records has been moved out of the label group and into Island Def Jam. This leaves Universal Republic as its own stand alone label that is not part of a label group. It simply continues to be part of universal music group but as a stand alone label. This article mentions (implies) the change briefly:

Over here on the official site of UMG, it lists its labels. Universal Motown in not listed but instead Universal Republic is listed.:

http://www.universalmusic.com/labels

The Universal Republic Records page should keep its title as this page is merged with it.

From what I read of the article, it doesn't explicitly state that UMRG is being dissolved. It just says that Motown will be affiliated with IDJ; but to how extreme or indefinite a capacity, it doesn't mention. I'd rather wait until Universal Music Group states absolutely that Universal Motown Republic is finished before merging. NineElevenSevenNine (talk) 17:09, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Ok cool. Fair enough. --MusicGeek101 (talk) 17:28, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
