Quotas

edit

This article went out of its way to specify a quota for each event. For all events it is 3 except Men's Decathlon, Women's 20K walk and Women's Javelin throw. Where is this quota documented? One of the sources refers to the IAAF performance list, which other editors have misused to declare eligibility for other IAAF championships. In July 2015, we are almost a year away from the July 11, 2016 deadline for performance qualification. The current IAAF list is virtually meaningless. Granted in women's 20K walk, USA is weak. Similarly women's javelin, much less men's discus and women's high jump where the US gets a full allotment according to the current article. But men's decathlon, US has the defending Olympic and World Champion Ashton Eaton and the previous World Champion Trey Hardee; two of the best in the world. In that level of competition, the #3 athlete in the US is not going to be eligible? That makes absolutely no sense. Trackinfo (talk) 00:11, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Women's soccer team

edit

Should this mention that the women's soccer team is threatening to refuse to go to the Olympics should they be unsuccessful in gaining equal pay to that of the men's team? [1] 331dot (talk) 12:49, 19 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Asterisk

edit

There's no explanation of what the asterisk means. It looks like a team event where certain members didn't compete in the event (such as a swim relay). Is this so? Do the people with the asterisk still get awarded a medal? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.112.128.15 (talk) 22:22, 9 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
