Expansion of the History Category

I expanded the Category: History with greater detail to the Korean War, Vietnam War, and history between the War in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf War. Also, I expanded info on the actions of the Persian Gulf War, itself.

This information is accurate and in the public domain. I received this history from the Public Affairs Office of the Commander of the U.SSeventh Fleet, FPO AP 96001-6003.

I would appreciate any feedback, USN Historian 19:59, 5 August 2007 (UTC)USN Historian

Why were my additions deleted?!

Photographs

Not having the expertise to do so, I have not undertaken even an attempt at revision, but I offer a suggestion.

The second photograph on this 7th Fleet page shows the USS Princeton (CVL-23) under attack at the Battle of Leyte Gulf, during which time it was assigned to the 3rd Fleet.

Wouldn't it be better to use instead the photograph appearing third on the Wikipedia page for the USS Gambier Bay (CVE-73), depicting that vessel under bombardment during the Battle off Samar? At that time, Gambier Bay was a component of 7th Fleet (Task Unit 77.4.3, commonly known by its radio call sign of "Taffy 3"). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.204.79.85 (talk) 12:49, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Rape and genocide allegations

That particular statement in the history section should have a source, otherwise it should be removed. If it isn't sourced within a day or two, I'm probably going to remove it.98.235.67.132 (talk) 01:00, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

You are right, it did not cite references, however instead of removing it, you could have searched and added references. I am doing the same in due course. Please do not remove what you do not like, please limit deletion to what is bad. For starters check this out. [1] Yogesh Khandke (talk) 05:01, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
Please have a look at the edit you made, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=United_States_Seventh_Fleet&diff=next&oldid=265030336, your edit summary reads, Removed high POV/unsourced/scurrilous/vandalism, you are right, it did not cite references, however instead of removing it, you could have searched and added references. The word scurrilous, used in the edit summary, which means abusive, defamatory, foul-mouthed, vulgar, wicked is an unfortunate choice. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 05:17, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
I said scurrilous and I meant it. Accusing a military organization of participating in rape, genocide or other war crimes is defamatory and libellous. Whatever the Pakistanis did, to accuse the US Navy of "an attempt to assist Pakistan in perpetrating genocide and rape on the Bengalis" is unwarranted, baseless, and, yes, scurrilous. To use "appeared" and "the nature and extent of this assistance remained unclear." are just weasel-words, a way of insinuating a vile allegastion without, quite, saying it directly.Solicitr (talk) 13:54, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Redirects needed

U.S. Navy 7th Fleet, U.S. Navy Seventh Fleet, and U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet should redirect to this article. 98.81.12.113 (talk) 20:36, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

1971 war

7th fleet was ordered to go Bay of Bengal in 1971 India-Pakistan war, but was halted by Soviets, where is it?Ovsek (talk) 05:37, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

According to official accounts, the Soviets did not reach the Bay of Bengal until the 18th and 24th (after Pakistan surrendered) https://archive.org/stream/ReadySeapower/ReadySeapower_djvu.txt Stephen.andrew.lynch (talk) 07:09, 2 June 2016 (UTC)

Historical coverage

As I've been expanding discussion of the fleet during the Vietnam War, I notice that other sections discuss the CTF components of the fleet, some including text about past history. I propose we keep historical information in the top chronological section and reserve discussion of the component task groups to brief discussions of composition. Otherwise we'd have several separate timelines running in each section. Chris Troutman (talk) 08:14, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Task Force 72 Link problem

The link to Task Force 72 is inappropriate. It goes to a page about scale modelling, which doesn't match. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.200.129.41 (talk) 03:47, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
