Role

edit

just a suggestion, for all military unit articles, surely it should include a "role" section detailing the specific duties and combat style of the unit, i.e. commando raids etc

It's not known that 1 RIFLES will be used for 2nd line duties, so I think that writing it here is not right.

I want ot find out more about 3 Commando Brigade, apparently its responsible for manoeuvre formation . Could someone explain what this is for the benefit of non-military readers. Escaper2007 14:40, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

My understanding of a manoeuvre formation is that it is essentially a military grouping e.g. battalion, brigade, division, etc., that uses the characteristics of its component units to achieve a dislocation effect on the enemy. Essentially this means that they use mobility (either land, air or seaborne) to put themselves on a part of the battlefield that puts the enemy at a disadvantage due to the fact that they (the enemy) did not expect it and or are unable to bring sufficient weight of force to resist effectively and therefore allowing the formation to achieve either lodgement and or breakthrough. RM/ 3 Cdo Bde confusion

edit

There's some confusion in the box, with, for example, a RM capbadge instead of the Brigade Flash which should be corrected. 67th Tigers 16:23, 26 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Role/Definition

edit

Obviously 3 Commando Brigade fulfil Britain's primary Commando role as well as an amphibious one and should be defined as such Bunnyman78 (talk) 14:52, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

8 Battalion strength

edit

The inf box state the bde has a 8 Battalion strength but the following list only has 7 units and I cannot see which one if any is missing.--Jim Sweeney (talk) 09:43, 7 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Good spot, it's the Command Support Group, which is roughly Battalion+, based at Stonehouse.
