My name is Desiree Jordan and I am the woman who called Karen Teegarden on the night of February 19th, 2012 after watching Darrell Issa's House Committee hearing on Capitol Hill regarding Women's.Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).[1] That night I called Ms. Teegarden as i usually do to discuss politics and at that time felt she was a decent person.[I have the phone records) [I met Ms. Teegarden after months of blogging together and had met her at the John Stewarts "Regain your Sanity Rally" in DC a year.] That night we discussed what WE could do in response as just two Americans. I told Ms. Teegadren to "build" a facebook wall and what to name it. I remember telling her how to "click" the button on the side and create the page by naming it "Unite Against the War on Women" For days after that we both stayed up for hours and SHARED that original wall with each of our friends and on other political walls we both belonged to. The wall grew quickly and Karen Teegarden introduced me to a woman by the name of Erin Nanasi [We are Woman] who was already planning her own march in DC. [ i have the screen shots of me karen and Erin formulation a mission statement for uniteWomen.org] In NYC, where I live - I really got to work to produce a great march and rally and * gullible* told Ms. Teegarden that I only wanted to concentrate on NYC's March and Rally.

Imagine my surprise when Karen Teegarden started writing articles claiming that she was the "founder" of UniteWomen.org. I confronted her about it on the phone and she lied to me - claiming that "the editors told her to leave my name out". I was so "embarrased" and "hurt" and Shocked" that I could have balled up and rolled into a shell. I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE that any woman could try to PERVERT something so organic just for SELF PRAISE and MONEY. Apparently when I working hard organizing here in NYC with the 5 women who helped me - I was completely *unaware* - Ms. Teegarden along with Anita Doll Floris, Renee Davis, Patricia Mooney Gill" decided that they would "incorporate" Unitewomen.org in Michigan and then attempted to RE-WRITE the REAL HISTORY of UniteWomen.org. I did not have a problem with her incorporating UniteWomen.org but that I did have a problem with how she has attempted to erase me...DESIREE JORDAN- the woman whose call STATRED UniteWoman.org

The last conversation I had with Ms. Teegarden on the phone I told her that I would never want to exchange places with her because what she "attempted" to do was downright shameful and I would always tell MY story as I am doing here and elsewhere. See Letter below in a letter I wrote to another organization exposing Karen Teegarden

Information Your Organization should know regarding UniteWomen.org and Karen Teegarden presentation Honoring Women's Rights on September 8th 2012

Desiree Jordan Aug 24

to darleneboyd Good Afternoon~ My name is Desiree Jordan and I am, a wife, mother of two, social worker and women's rights activist. I am also the "spark" that ignited the entire Unite Women.org Grassroots Movement. I am the woman who called Karen Teegarden on February 19th 2012 and informed her to "build it and they will come". You will find evidence of this statement here: http://unitewomen.org/page.php?7

Ms. Boyd~ it is after deep soul searching and with great respect for your organization that I write you this letter informing you of the facts about UniteWomen.org and it's "leadership". But more importantly, I write to you today, to ease my own conscience - because I believe that not telling the "facts" would make me complicit in the way that Karen Teegarden has attempted to pervert what was truly a grassroots movement for all the wrong reasons.

It has come to my attention that you will be allowing her to speak at your Women's Conference and I just wanted to inform you that you may not have the entire story.

In your write-up about your event scheduled for September 8th 2012 - It states that "Karen Teegarden" became frustrated with the treatment of Sandra Fluke and started this movement with no mention of my name. This statement could not be further from the truth. I am the one who called Karen Teegadrden that night and vented about the five men brought to to Capitol Hill to testify as to why it would be against religious institutions morality to cover American women's health issues. I am the person who told her to built the facebook wall and what to name it: "Uniting against the War on Women". The only reason Karen Teegarden created that original group that night - is because she had never created one before and I talked her through how to do it. It appears that Karen Teegarden has once again attempted to "hijack" my voice and my story as her own and honestly, I don't know how she lives with herself. WE, Myself and Karen Teegarden worked frantically for the next few days to built the membership. The women and men from all across this great nation, who never met, who for worked tirelessly for 10 weeks are the foundation and the reason that UniteWomen.org exists today.

I informed Karen Teegarden from very early on that I would concentrate on mobilizing women in New York City and that I would concern my self with organizing with the help of F NYC 4.28.12 NYC March & Rally with five other women brilliant women here and we did just that. (See attached Flyer and video) I am proud to tell you that Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney who asked "Where are the Women" and who I felt compleed to answer was the Keynote Speaker at our Rally.

Unfortunately, Karen Teegarden, for whatever reasons, my race, my naivete, my trustworthiness - took my intention to focus on NYC as an avenue to rob me of my voice and my part in the UniteWomen.org story. I confronted her on the phone about this early on and she lied. Telling me that I was not mentioned in the first Huffington Post article that she wrote- because the editors told her she was not to mention me. Women from our team her in NYC confronted her also and called her out on her "motives" and she dismissed them. I have since cut all ties with Mrs Teegarden because I am still in shock at how many women she has hurt on her quest to subvert a real women's rights grassroots movement at this particular time in our political history as it pertains to "real equality". These women are also ready to tell their truths about how horrifically Karen Teegarden and her organization Unitewomen.org used what we started to demean and dehumanize them. They also have the printed evidence of Karen Teegarden - in her own hand- exactly how dastardly she behaved.

That is my mom who opens the video and it was donated by a friend who was really inspired by what was unfolding - To this day I have not really informed my mother that Karen Teegarden has attempted to rob me of my voice and story because I am too ashamed for her. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX_pW1X_Lpk

In closing, I would like to thank you in advance for giving me an opportunity to make your organization aware of exactly who you have invited to speak on behalf of women. I personally, would not be able to look myself in the mirror if I did not speak up and make your organization aware of the entire story of the birth of UniteWomen.org. I have refrained from telling anyone (except a few good women who have supported me through all this) because I will not be accused of being "catty", nor do I want to jeopardize the the dedication, hope and work the thousands of unsuspecting women who coninue to support UniteWomen.org with their money and their sweat publicly. I have too muh class for that and I know that to denegrate any woman, even Mrs. Teegarden - is counter productive and detrimental to moving forward towards equality.

Again - Thanks you and If you have any questions, or comments - please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely, Desiree E. Jordan LMSW

Here is her response to my letter:

Darlene Boyd Aug 24

to me Dear Desiree,

Thank you for sharing your story. You must be very hurt. Your story reminds me of the "Truth and Reconciliation Committee" brought into being by Nelson Mandela, where a factual story is at least spoken and given recognition. Ms. Teegarden needs to give credit where it is due, and she will need to sort through this dilemma and her own conscience. I do appreciate that you have shared this egregious story with me. I also wish you the best in your continuing efforts to empower women, especially women of color to speak out and demand the rights that we have all been denied. I feel honored that you have shared this with me. If there is any way we can work together in the future, please let me know. Your efforts are so important.

Gratefully,

Darlene Boyd So as you can see, contrary to what was stated above "....no one HATES Karen Teegarden. She is NOT worth the energy. Long after I parted ways with Ms. Teegarden it has come to my attention that she has been just as devious, abusive and dismissive of many volunteers who poured blood and sweat into a real grassroots movement- So I can totally understand where the author of the above PROJECTED feelings of "HATRED' emanates from - their own actions. I personally have not been in contact with Ms. Teegarden and I have moved on successfully here in NYC by incorporating as UniteWomenny.org. However- i would feel extremely COWARD if i did NOT STAND UP and SPEAK UP for myself. After all- it's WHO I AM and WHAT I DO and the MISSION of UniteWomenny.org. How can I really provide a platform for women to speak out is I continued to stay SILENT?

I would like to respectfully thank you for leaving in the edits I just made as they are FACTUAL and including my external link as it DESERVES to BE THERE. Sincerely, Desiree E. Jordan (Desroya (talk) 06:38, 25 November 2012 (UTC))Reply
