Inflammatory/unverified claim edit

The claim that black people were a part of the KKK in the 1800's is, at best, highly questionable and only references "slave narratives, Louisiana" with no further citations or links. I feel that it should be removed if that information cannot be verified from a credible source. 2606:6000:6245:FE00:657C:6FF7:BD39:CC8F (talk) 22:06, 11 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

External Link edit

Would a link to this article be relevant? http://www.encyclopediaofalabama.org/face/Article.jsp?id=h-1151 -- It seems to fit the themes of the other external links.

Comments and some small changes edit

Fascinating history! I like the serious effort on this page to collect references. I stumbled onto it because I was trying to understand the poetry prize given by the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation, which has been received by many distinguished poets.EAS 03:17, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Alex, I'm building a ULCNY page edit

Alex: I see you have expanded this article. I think it would be a good idea to build a separate ULCNY page, which I have begun. I was going to go over to the Club tomorrow and shoot a digital picture, so there will be no copyright issues. - John Barnes

Plagiarized material of questionable objectivity noted edit

Much of this entry was lifted from another site. I'm new to Wiki and I signed in because I want the problem noted for the record. If I am not following the proper procedure, please let me know.

what you did is ok, & I removed the copyvio. Even if it had been fair, it would have been necessary to remove it. but you could also simply have removed it and justified on the talk page. I note that this article is in need of some expansion. Perhaps the Union League in the south and the clubs in the North need separate treatment. DGG (talk) 07:02, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Two topics mixed, Union Leagues, and the Philadelphia Union League. edit

The Union League of Philadelphia has always been a very important institution in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, this article mixes two different but connected topics, Union Leagues in various places, and the Philadelphia institution. This is a mistake, and the two should be separated. Also, this article is sadly lacking in independent citations. --DThomsen8 (talk) 00:49, 19 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Founded by Cadwalader Biddle? edit

According to the Biddle family page, Cadwalader Biddle founded the Union League, but there's nothing on this page or at their website mentioning him. If he is the founder (or one of the founders), that should be added to the page. Tocharianne (talk) 15:36, 17 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

False Claim by author that does not have the proper footnoted source. edit

The author of this Wikipedia article made the erroneous claim that "The Ku Klux Klan (1865-1873 or so) was a secret organization of whites and blacks". The author provided a footnote that listed a Slave Narrative from Louisiana as the source. The source is unavailable and the claim itself is completely idiotic. Since when were Black people a part of the KKK from 1865 to 1873? The author's source is a smoking mirror at best, and even if his source were to even be considered credible, he didn't even list which specific slave narrative that supports his claim. Just saying "Slave Narrative: Louisiana" isn't properly listing a credible source — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulieknucklez (talkcontribs) 16:24, 12 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

agree. I erased it. the anonymous editor has no track record with any other Wiki article so it looks like vandalism. Rjensen (talk) 08:07, 12 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Questionable sources edit

Using a highly biased 1912 source to make claims about the activities of Union leagues in NC in 1867 is questionable. Just because it was published does not mean it should be taken at face value. There has been much revised history written since then, particularly since the late 20th century, that give a more balanced view of the aftermath of the Civil War. Even material from the article was exaggerated and overstated, distorting the full view of who was committing the most violence around elections in the late 1860s and 1870s.
