Russian Federation

edit

It strikes me as both unnecessary and very odd that the "Example" section contains a sub-section, "Russian Federation" containing exclusively pictures of Russian women in uniform. This section seems entirely dispensable. CharlesMartel (talk) 20:31, 18 August 2017 (UTC)CharlesMartelReply

Not much actual information about uniforms?

edit

It's mostly just a bunch of examples/types. Shouldn't an encyclopedic article have some form of history section? Where did uniforms start? What was the first (recognised) uniform? Was it's use mandated, chosen due to practical considerations, just happened to evolve, etc? Have (some) uniforms always had decorative aspects, or did it become fashionable at some point? Did uniform originally mean clothing and other meanings came from it, or other way around? Shouldn't there be some grouping of different classes of uniform? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.29.164.155 (talk) 17:15, 6 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Should include more PICTURES, and more information generally

edit

More pictures of uniforms would be good because uniforms are a, amongst other things, a visual medium.

And more discussion of sports uniforms, work uniforms. More emphasis on civilian uniforms. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TwoMetalDragons (talkcontribs) 04:08, 25 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

UniformList of types of uniforms – This article should be merged into Military uniform, Nurse uniform, School uniform, etc.. The word "uniform" can refer to essentially any form of standardized dress, and this article currently just lists a number of kinds of uniform; the only real common part are the Buttons and Hygiene; the first is about button collecting, which has an article, and the second is about a tax deduction for uniform cleaning, which isn't really enough to write an article about and can be put into respective articles if necessary anyways. It's not possible to write a cohesive article about all kinds of organized dress, just because they're referred to by the word "uniform", all at the same time. I thought of trying to write a History section, but realized that I'd have to write about the development of military uniforms, police uniforms, nurses' uniforms, and McDonalds costumes at the same time, which doesn't make sense because "uniform" is not a cohesive topic.

Most of the sections of the this article already have articles treating them. Work uniform (now a redirect) could be restored for that section. The Sports section I'm not sure about, but Sports uniform (also now a redirect) could also be restored. Mrfoogles (talk) 04:35, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

While it has been marked a vital article, there's currently 19 too many level-4 vital articles in any case: splitting it would not be detrimental Mrfoogles (talk) 06:58, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose: This article is structured as a broad-concept article rather than a list, and its current name reflects that. The "Variants" section doubles as a navigation aid and that's fine too. We can decide not to have a history section if it doesn't make sense to have a history section. There's a lot more that could be added about uniforms in general: how uniforms are designed to communicate things like authority or competence in a certain field (cf semiotics of fashion), effects on the psychology and productivity of wearers, effects on group cohesion, how uniforms theoretically improve equality within the group of wearers but wreck anyone with prosopagnosia, interactions with gender stereotypes and gender expression...
