Slang?

edit

This word is in the dictionary and is used in the way defined - is it still considered slang? - 64.93.237.116 01:02, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

You are quite correct, umpteen is not slang. I have fixed it to have a definition closer to what the author probably intended. Metsfanmax 21:32, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Merge

edit

I agree, the articles should be merged. Brandonrush 21:54, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Support, as long as ... - We'd have to really rework Indefinite and fictitious large numbers, which right now is entirely about "zillion" and its "-illion" counterparts. (The page was zillion until pages were moved around in late 2006.) Just slapping this at the bottom won't work; we would have to rewrite the top of the "indefinite..." article, then make Zillion and Umpteen and perhaps some others "words" as sections within it. - DavidWBrooks 01:06, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Support, as long as ... - the Indefinite and fictitious large numbers article is renamed to "Indefinite and fictitious numbers" or something similar, since Umpteen is not neccessarily a "large" number.

I'm fine with merging it, as long as whoever does the merge has the time to rework the entire article to include it. Ironically, this has been tagged since november of '06, and we haven't gotten to it untili now. 24.15.53.225 12:03, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not merge, after all

edit

Despite my earlier vote, I have change my mind. I created Indefinite and fictitious numbers (note the missing word "large"), which points to Umpteen and to Indefinite and fictitious large numbers, which I will propose renaming "zillion". Any thoughts? - DavidWBrooks 16:33, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

After much confusion - including a merge vote that went nowhere until it was done backwards, I've moved this to Indefinite and fictitious numbers, along with all the -illion words - putting them all in one spot. We'll see how long that lasts. - DavidWBrooks 02:25, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
