I have removed what was denominated USS Bunker Hill (1917) from this list as I can find no evidence it was ever commissioned under that name. SS Bunker Hill, a civilian coastal steamer launched in 1907, was acquired by the Navy in 1917 and commissioned three days later as USS Aroostook (CM-3). It never was a "USS" commissioned ship under the name of Bunker Hill, and the Naval Historical Center designates the carrier as the first USS Bunker Hill and the modern escort as the second.[1]Kablammo (talk) 14:20, 3 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
