Natoma had very brief and mundane Navy service, more years but not particularly notable civilian yacht period but fairly long service as a survey vessel. The vessel surveyed on the West Coast from the Los Angeles area to Alaska from 1919 to spring of 1927 when it was transferred to the East Coast. On the way Natoma surveyed some areas on the Panama Canal approaches and then the East Coast. The vessel before retirement appeared to return to the old naval patrol area of New York harbor and then up the Hudson charting navigation channels for deeper draft vessels after that work had been done. Civilian yacht documentation of events beyond characteristics and photos when new appear to be few. Navy has a few lines in DANFS regarding patrols in New York Harbor. The survey period documentation in Annual Reports alone extends over the period 1919 to shortly before decommissioning. That documentation includes some fairly important survey work such as the first extensive revision of San Francisco Harbor area after considerable growth and change. No disambiguation appears necessary by year or other means as the name appears to be unique within USC&GS and Navy. Palmeira (talk) 17:41, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
