Country coefficients for the next season edit

The ranking at the end of the season 05/06 determines the number of teams in 06/07 domestic championships qualifying for the 07/08 European season. The points Romanian teams made this season only apply to the season after the next. For the 06/07 European season, following ranking applies:

Two places in the CL group stage, two in the third round of the qualification, two in the UEFA-Cup (plus the cup winner): 1 Spain 2 England 3 Italy

2 (CL group stage), 1 (CL qualification), 2 (UEFA Cup first round): 4 France 5 Germany 6 Portugal

1 (CL group stage), 1 (CL qualification), 3 (UEFA Cup first round): 7 Netherlands 8 Greece

1 (CL group stage), 1 (CL qualification), 1 (UEFA Cup first round): 9 Belgium 10 Scotland

2 (CL qualification), 1 (UEFA Cup): 11 Turkey 12 Czech Republic 13 Russia 14 Austria 15 Ukraine

1 (CL qualification), 2 (UEFA Cup): 16 Israel 17 Serbia-Montenegro 18 Poland 19 Switzerland 20 Norway 21 Bulgaria 22 Croatia

1 (CL qualification), 1 (UEFA Cup): 23 Denmark 24 Hungary 25 Romania 26 Sweden 27 Slovakia 28 Slovenia 29 Cyprus 30 Bosnia-Herzegovina 31 Latvia 32 Finland 33 Moldova 34 Georgia 35 Lithuania 36 Iceland 37 Macedonia 38 Ireland 39 Belarus 40 Liechtenstein 41 Armenia 42 Malta 43 Albania 44 Estonia 45 Northern Ireland 46 Wales 47 Luxembourg 48 Azerbaijan 49 Faroe Islands 50 Kazakhstan 51 San Marino 52 Andorra

According to this breakdown, the 05/06 Romanian champion is not qualified for the CL group stage. I've made some changes there.(134.226.1.136 12:19, 9 May 2006 (UTC))Reply

Hearts edit

According to kassiesa.com/friends/ricardo/ecl0506/cl0607.htm Hearts will start in the 2nd qualifying round. kalaha 13:43, 10 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

And according to xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/index.html no 10 on the coefficent list will have teams in the 2nd and 3rd qual. round, and NOT in the 3rd qual. round and group stage. kalaha 13:52, 10 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, my bad! (134.226.1.136 17:18, 10 May 2006 (UTC))Reply

Celtic and the group stages edit

Also according to [1], if the Champions League titleholders come from a team that already qualifies for group stages, the #10 nation (Scotland)'s champion gets the final group play spot.

Thus, if Barcelona wins the Champions League, Celtic will get that last spot, as Barcelong has already qualified for the group stages (as Spanish champion).

If Arsenal wins the Champions League, Celtic will start in the 3rd qualification round because Arsenal will take the titleholder spot (they otherwise would qualify for the third qualification round.)

Ukrainian championship edit

To whoever added in Shakhtar Donetsk as Ukraine champions, according to uefa.com if yesterday's match between Shakhtar and Kiev ended in a draw (it did, 2-2), they will have a one match playoff this weekend to determine the champions. JoelCFC25 12:32, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Greek Champiosnip edit

In the 3rd qualification round, Greece is represented by AEK and not by Panathinaikos

Spanish League edit

The La Liga season is NOT over yet. Indeed, most of the lower ranked sides have played their last games of the season, but the top five have not. This is largely due to the postponement of the Sevilla v Barcelona game being postponed a few weeks ago. The top five have to play their final games in midweek, hence the final few Champions League places are still to be decided.

Scandal! edit

Due to the huge scandal that hammered Serie A (and the four teams involved in UCL, especially "my" Juventus -_-), I'd wait before adding Italian teams. I'm Italian and proud to be that, and I feel sorry for "the world's best championship" to collapse under money and greed. --Frank87 18:37, 19 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Serie A is not the world's best championship. The Bundesliga is. Kingjeff 12:05, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

You're both wrong. The Premiership is the best. Martin McCann 22:06, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Seeding tables edit

Why are the seeding tables provisional? The club's coefficents is "ready", and on, at least two, websites, can you the seedings[2][3]. kalaha 12:55, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

We don't know what the groups are yet. Kingjeff 17:39, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I talk about the qual.rounds. kalaha 18:48, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, these sites are by no means official, and they make some assumptions (like "seeded team always wins") to build their tables that are called crystal-balling here. However, I was a little hasty to remove the seedings because the seeding didn't depend on match results at all. Conscious 18:55, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
No, no... When the draw for 3rd qual.round are made, only the first 2nd qual.round leg has been played. If it is the team with a minor coefficiens who go futher, you can say that they takes the better team's coefficiens. Therefore the principe with best team wins is correct, just not in the group stage (for one or another reason). kalaha 19:05, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

This is my example on a seeding table. kalaha 20:30, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Seeded teams Unseeded teams
  Internazionale Fenerbahçe, Birkirkara or B36
  Liverpool   Fiorentina
  Arsenal   FK Austria Wien
  Valencia   Osasuna
Ajax Pyunik, Sheriff or Spartak Moscow
Lille Elbasani, Ekranas or Dinamo Zagreb
SL Benfica Cork City, Apollon Limassol or Red Star Belgrade
Linfield, Gorica or Steaua Bucureşti Hearts, Shakhtyor or Siroki Brijeg
  CSKA Moscow   Maccabi Haifa
  AEK Athens   Standard
Metalurgs, Aktobe or Dynamo Kyiv FC København, MyPa or The New Saints

Shakhtar Donetsk Debrecen, Dudelange or Rabotnicki

I've added information about the seeding (but as a list to avoid impression of pairing teams). Please improve. Conscious 10:38, 26 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

72 headers edit

Let's delete the empty tables for GS. They clutter the page strongly (only TOC is 3 screens long!) and add absolutely no information. Conscious 15:08, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've gone ahead and removed them. To the person that added them - your edits were not for naught. We can just add them back from the history when the time comes to fill them. - Pal 01:59, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

There is no need to look down that far on the page yet. Kingjeff 02:18, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

See what a nice guy I am. I met you two half way. Kingjeff 02:59, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

There is no need to have empty tables for two months. They add nothing to the article. If anything there should be a sentence stating that the group stage consists of eight groups of four, lettered A-H. - Pal 03:37, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Why not just comment them out for the time being? -- Arwel (talk) 14:30, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
That would work, too. Though it appears Kingjeff insists on having the empty tables displayed. - Pal 15:10, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
FWIW, I prefer tables format of UEFA Champions League 2005-06. Conscious 17:08, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kingjeff, I kindly ask you not to add tables until 24 August. And read WP:V and WP:DR to learn the difference between vandalism and editorial dispute. Conscious 17:14, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Don't leave any comments for me. I'll add what I want. Kingjeff 17:22, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

With an attitude like that, you'll find a lot of other people watching your edits. -- Robster2001 02:51, 26 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Same goes to you. Do you usually harass people? Kingjeff 13:04, 26 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please note that you've already broken WP:3RR. Don't edit war, nobody seems to agree with you. And read WP:V and WP:DR to learn the difference between vandalism and editorial dispute. Conscious 14:59, 26 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Did I not say to not leave any comments for me? Kingjeff 16:57, 26 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes you did. But you can't stop people from that. Conscious 17:13, 26 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I honestly don't care if you leave messages for anyone else. Just don't leave then for me. Kingjeff 18:30, 26 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

You really need to read the various WikiPedia documents you've been referred to. Your actions indicate that you don't understand how WikiPedia works. -- Robster2001 12:12, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Everyone else is allowed to leave a comment for me. Just not you two. Kingjeff 13:57, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I will comment on anything I want. Including the fact that you still don't get WikiPedia, despite all the time you appear to have spent here. -- Robster2001 12:38, 1 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

You don't get that I don't want you leaving any comments for me and secondly, this discussion was over a few days ago. Kingjeff 13:23, 1 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Serbia and Montenegro edit

Flags of Serbian participants have been changed back and forth (SCG<->SER) several times. The motivation of both sides is obvious: Serbian sides qualified through Serbia and Motenegro league, but they (will) represent Serbia. Further complication is that UEFA site displays them as SCG, but Serbia and Montenegro does not exist as a single state. I'm inviting everyone to discuss it.

My personal opinion is that we should display the flag of the country being represented (for example, points collected by Serbian teams will count towards Serbia's UEFA coefficient). There is also a precedent: on the page UEFA Champions League 1992-93, Russian flag is displayed for CSKA Moscow (they qualified as 1991 Soviet champions). Conscious 15:37, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have to disagree, based on the precedent set by FIFA itself in the current World Cup. The team in question continued to represent Serbia and Montenegro (SCG) even after Montenegro declared independence. Additionally, even though they were still referred to as SCG, any points they received (towards rankings, seedings, etc.) would only count for the team that represents Serbia in the future. - Pal 17:40, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
But FIFA gives teams for 2005/06 season, and we're discussing 2006/07. Conscious 17:54, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Okay, but UEFA still refers to them as representing SCG (see CL). The teams in the UEFA Cup and the Intertoto Cup are also listed as such. Maybe UEFA is simply listing them as SCG because the federations haven't officially split yet (it happens tomorrow), but until UEFA starts printing SER instead of SCG I suggest we refrain from making the switch. - Pal 19:34, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I suppose they're rather waiting until they've decided on a country code, and they're likely waiting with that until ISO finally proclaims the new codes for Serbia and Montenegro. —Nightstallion (?) 13:03, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

The choice of either would be acceptable, but with a footnote to explain the confusion. ed g2stalk 14:35, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Greece edit

I see we have an interesting situation where FIFA has suspended the Greek federation from all international competition because of alleged government interference in the running of the sport. I don't know what the deadline will be for sorting out the mess if Greek teams are to participate in the CL and UEFA Cup, but Greece's first qualification match for Euro 2008 is in only about 6 weeks' time, so somebody had better pull their finger out! -- Arwel (talk) 15:16, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I say we don't change anything until we see a decision by UEFA and FIFA. Kingjeff 16:22, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

about the 3th qual. edit

Due to The Greek Scandal, all the greek teams are eliminated and other teams will take their place. therefore, 2 unseeded teams in the 3th qual. will be seeded. Moreover, It's not sure the Italian teams will be allowed to participate the UEFA Champions league, therefore, maybe other teams will be seeded. However, maybe instead the teams which will not be allowed to participate (From Italy), other teams from Italy which will be allowed to participate the UEFA Champions Legaue will take their place. I hope that teams from other nations will take Juventus' place (Because I am fan of Maccabi Haifa :-) )

Did UEFA announce it how they would deal with the Greeek teams, or is it just a speculation? Conscious 11:08, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I can't see anything on the UEFA website other than a bare reporting of the FIFA press release. I don't suppose anyone's decided what to do yet. -- Arwel (talk) 11:28, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I agree, and I think that the article reflects the current situation, mentioning the ban but not speculating about replacements, seeding changes etc. Conscious 12:38, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
UEFA has to decide quickly because the draw is on July 28th (less than 3 weeks), therefore, I think UEFA will announce in this week
Looks like that's no longer an issue...the ban has been lifted. I wonder what news will come for the Italian teams. Eendrani 23:40, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Maccabi Haifa edit

Will Maccabi Haifa be allowed to host in Israel? I've seen in Israeli websites that UEFA considers if the Israeli teams should play the games in Israel due the "war" Israel-Lebanon (well, it's not a real war, but in the European communication it looks like a war) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.178.166.150 (talkcontribs)

We'll have to wait and see. Right now, if we put anything in the article, it would be crystal balling. I would use UEFA's official website for any news about this. Kingjeff 17:30, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, but I haven't seen in their site about this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.178.166.150 (talkcontribs) 20:47, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, nithing might come out of this or they may make a decision. Lets wait and see. Kingjeff 19:53, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Serie A Teams Post-Scandal edit

Since Juventus, Fiorentina, Lazio, and AC Milan are all out of the Champions League due to the match-fixing scandal in Italy, does anyone know which teams might end up replacing them from Serie A? --Miss kat 19:37, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lazio did not qualify for the Champions League, but for the UEFA Cup. The rest will be replaced by Roma, Chievo and Palermo. Internazionale and Roma will qualify for the group stage, while Palermo and Chievo will enter at the third qualifying round. Ross-1 19:42, 14 July, 2006 (UTC)

I think Palermo will be unseeded and one unseeded team will be seeded instead
I think so too. Kingjeff
