Let's make this a good article!

Now that some time has elapsed since Peter Steele's death and the article has stopped being so frequently edited, it seems like a good time to consider making this an official Wikipedia:Good article. The article has been in decent shape for some time now. I suspect that it will be fairly easy to get it to pass its nomination. I had made some recent tweaks to (hopefully) improve the text. I want to re-read MOS:MUSIC to make sure I'm up-to-date on all the technical formatting concerns. I'm also curious who else is watching this article and is willing to help with the effort. I figure I'll give things a week grace period and then start the review process.

I also archived most of the old discussions to give us a clean talk page to discuss items needed for good article status. Most of the discussions were stale anyhow so it shouldn't be a problem.

Good article status is the first step. I've imagined seeing this article as a featured article for some time. Let's get Type O on the frontpage! If you have interest in making this happen, start by reading up on the Wikipedia:Good article criteria, editing the text, improving references, and so on. We can do it. Genre

Just a quick note about the genre here, nowhere in the article are their cited mentions of the band belonging to any genre. I'd let the gothic metal one slide for now as their's hints of describing that sound, but outside the lead neither doom metal or gothic metal are mentioned. Thrash and doom?

I heard they were emo, in fact that is why I came here, to check their genre, but there was no mention of it. I know emo sings about similar subject matter ("I hate myself, wish I'd die") but I honestly have no clue what emo really sounds like, I can see gothic metal, but maybe they are just one of those bands that kind of spreads over a bunch of genres. --Billy Nair (talk) 06:06, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

First time I ever heard someone claim that. Not even close in my opinion. If anything I suspect they'd be insulted. Nowhere in their music do you find that screamy-whiny, pop-influenced sound found is so many emo songs. Jason Quinn (talk) 13:26, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Type O's style is quite nebulous. My personal opinion is that goth metal is probably the most accurate description but Wikipedia used references from reliable sources for verifiability. I have seen Type O described as goth metal, goth (Jenkins Washington Post review World Coming Down), death metal (Jenkins Washington Post review of October Rust), thrash (Pareles New York Times show review), heavy metal, and just about every combination of this possible. Need help with adding high notability refs

I have added all the references I can find that are from highly notable sources. This profile of Type O at answers.com gives some references that would be excellent to have in the article but they are behind paywalls and I can't read them. In particular

• Mark Jenkin's review of World Coming Down from Oct 22, 1999 in the Washington Post.
• Rolling Stone, February 23, 1995, p. 74 (are there any more Rolling Stone articles too?)
• Los Angeles Times, February 14, 1997, p. 37; February 22, 1997, p. F, 4:3; July 1, 1997, p. F, 2:3

Someone should add a newspaper article/obituary to the appropriate section. Even though we all know Pete is dead we cannot rely on his own band's website for confirmation. needs a good source yes? Tours

So I saw that an ozzfest appearance is the lone tour. I'm proud to say I saw them in Portland in 2008. I forgot the name of the tour or if there was one and i looked it up. the Jagermeister tour with Hatebreed. In fact I left before hatebreed came on because they suck. Nativity in Black. Other comments

I notice the album Type O did the cover of Black Sabbath isn't mentioned by name, and since Nativity in Black has it's own page it seems like a worthy addition to Type O's if someone could hook that up :). I love that song. I notice there's quit a bit of stuffmissing citations. Like the one where it says about them being in Poland for Przystanek Woodstock. Gimmicks removal

It took me a few years to notice, but I see that the "Gimmicks" section of this article is gone -- why? Was it too poorly sourced? The section regarding the Bensonhoist Lesbian Choir was sourced back to Josh himself.--Perplexed 16:32, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Phlogiston Verdigris

Person who wrote Type O negative songs?

Inclusion of Original Sin

Considering that Carnivore and Fallout are included on the band's bio Original Sin should be included. Original Sin is the first band that Peter Steele and Josh Silver play together in 1981 they released a 7" 45 on Silver Records in 1982. The songs "Penalty of Love" and "Already Gone" are posted on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/embed/MTyq6zVcUIg) and there's an article on (http://www.groundzero-brooklyn.com/carnivore/fallout.html) that briefly talks about Original Sin. Of notable inclusion is the fact that this is how Josh met his first wife Cheryl Alter who is the lead singer of Original Sin.
