There were two meanings for "turkey" which I believe are bogus, I removed them both. They were: "Turkey - A synonym for cool, fashionable. Turkey - Aterm of endearment for one you love ("I love you, you are my turkey") --Xyzzyplugh 20:29, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oi stop being a turkey you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yardsgray (talkcontribs) 23:17, 10 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Should this page be the main page? edit

When one types "Turkey" into Wikipedia, the county page appears. I propose that this disambiguation page should appear, as the bird is likely just as popular as the county. Thoughts? --CPAScott (talk) 14:21, 29 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Cannot find evidence Turkey Lenihan exists edit

I am not sure that Turkey Lenihan exists. I have checked newspapers, other Wikipedia articles, and my best attempts at Google, and I cannot find anything that mentions him except for this disambiguation page. I cannot find a player by the name (first or last) Lenihan who played for any of the football clubs in Nottinghamshire, either. Should the mention of him be deleted from this page, or can someone better at research find evidence of him? Beesbeesthrees (talk) 22:25, 28 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Obviously vandalism: "reprobates" are generally not notable. Clarityfiend (talk) 00:11, 29 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

– No clear primary topic, Google Images returns more results for the bird. As someone who isn't religious and isn't in the US I'd say that the bird is more common. While the country gets many more views than the specific bird article there are a number of other associated topics and the higher views may partly be due to the country having more incoming links. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:46, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • pageviews for all pages linked from the dab page, to save others some clicks. Colin M (talk) 01:46, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per pageveiws above the country is the clear wp:primarytopic—blindlynx (talk) 03:36, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Strong Oppose, no tangible benefit. Can you even imagine what amount of cleanup that would take afterwards, as well as subsequent maintenance? I'm afraid to even click on Special:Whatlinkshere/Turkey lest the server crashes (kidding, but you get the point). No such user (talk) 07:40, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. While I can obviously see the point about the bird, I think it's being a bit pedantic and is not particularly useful. Why does religion or the US have anything to do with it? -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:53, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Because of Thanksgiving, at least Life After People mentions this. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:12, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
We're all familiar with the birds in the English-speaking world, but that doesn't mean the very large and significant country isn't primary. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:48, 18 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Crouch, Swale, I think you'll be better off withdrawing this and taking the time to look more closely at the case, and possibly come up with a more extensive argument. You can't really expect that one of the best established primary topics, with over 93,000 incoming links and stats an order of magnitude greater than anything else with the name, could be dislodged based on Google Images (of all places), and the introspection of one Wikipedia editor. Even just looking at reader behaviour: this article was visited by 12,625 readers each day in March, with only 87 clicking on the hatnote link for the bird and barely 17 clicking the link to the dab page. – Uanfala (talk) 16:56, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
This has been debated a few times over the years so I'b be more inclined to just wait for the 7 days to be up. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:03, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - The WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of the word remains that of the country, not the bird. Hansen SebastianTalk 18:45, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - The country gets nearly 80% of pageviews. A country is about as high on the "long-term significance" scale as you can get, so there are no subjective factors that would lead us to override this insurmountable lead. (Also, I don't think the effect of incoming links should be discounted, as it is also quite a chore to link to a parenthetically disambiguated title for such a popular topic.) -- King of ♥ 04:52, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose The country is still the primary topic. What will be proposed next, move Jordan out of primary because someone thinks that something else is the primary topic? LSGH (talk) (contributions) 07:43, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. The country is, very clearly, the primary topic, even if the bird gets more references in English-language google hits. BilledMammal (talk) 00:19, 22 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
    • Google hits are also dominated by the country. What the nominator was referring to was hits on Google Images. – Uanfala (talk) 00:30, 22 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
      • Sorry, I must have skipped over that word; thank you for the clarification. BilledMammal (talk) 00:47, 22 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Strong oppose, the country is clearly primary...--Ortizesp (talk) 05:50, 22 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Good morning all. Name changed edit

The country name has been changed as Türkiye. Would you think to change it with the correct one in your encyclopaedia? You cannot keep it forever non-exist name. 77.98.246.117 (talk) 20:55, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

No. Turkey is how it's known in most places. See MOS:COMMONNAME. (If things turn around, as it did for Peking->Beijing, then this can be revisited.) Clarityfiend (talk) 11:55, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
