"Turisas are Finnish, and Vikings did not come from Finland, but their music fits into the parameters of the subgenre."

Is there a citation or a source that clearly says that Vikings did not com from Finland? On the Viking article, it is said:

"The term Viking commonly denotes the ship-borne explorers, traders, and warriors of the Norsemen (literally, men from the north) who originated in Scandinavia..."

It is not specifically specified from which countries/regions they came from, but I am pretty sure that certain Vikings came from what is now Finland. I know for sure that Rus' Vikings went from what is now Finland to Russia. Could someone look into that? Thanks in advance, Zouavman Le Zouave _{(Talk to me! • O))))} 12:28, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

AFAIK the Fins themselves were no Vikings, but in the southern part of what now is Finland, Swedish Vikings settled and from there colonized Russia. Regardless of this matter, Viking Metal is a purely musical categorization and does not necessarily have to come from lands once ruled by Vikings. Falkenbach, for example, comes from Germany. This map[1] should clear things up a little bit. Vikings originated from the areas today known as Denmark, Norway and Sweden. As for Finland, the vikings primarily sailed to the east by following the Finnish coastline, and some perhaps settled in Finland, a few Finns might have joined the Viking enterprises, but Finland isn't to be considered a "viking country" per se. Why are you arguing about vikings? The topic isnt whether there are vikings in Finland but if Turisas is Viking Metal. My view is a mix of Folk Metal and Viking Metal a mix of both subgenres. KoRnOnThEeKoB (talk) 19:20, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

The last date on Maelkoch's Viking map (above) is 1000 CE. The electric guitar was not invented until after 1900 CE. All metal music requires electric guitar. Therefore, original Viking/Varangian/Variagi marauders are NOT the same as Viking metal musicians, irrespective of home, invaded, or adopted culture and/or geography (except in Iceland/Island, where they still use the letters eth and thorn, which would also still be in the English alphabet, if I were the boss of the English language)... (JOKE!) So, after that rant, I'm going off to dine on a Chicago-Mexican taco, made from beef (res, or Nor(se)man-French <<boeuf>>) that was cut from a slaughtered cow (vaca, or Anglo-Saxon cū) - (JOKE! - Actually, I ate a meatless Chicago-Balkan borek instead.). Line-up

Someone's added "Daniel Karlsson" to the line-up, which I'm removing as, to the best of my knowledge, it's not true. If Jussi's been replaced on guitars, it's probably news to him as well!

As for Lisko (Janne Makinen), the band haven't removed him from any official lineups, so I'm leaving him on until they say otherwise. If there's no update forthcoming when they get back from America, I'll ask them about it, but until then Lisko stays. Faerie Queene (talk) 14:17, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

The point is quite simple. Someone may come to Wikipedia to search for a particular person, and there is no article about that person, but they are mentioned in another article. It is far more helpful for them to be redirected to the relevant article than to just get nothing. JamesBWatson (talk) 21:01, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

True, but there is harsh vocals which are not present in any power metal band I know of, which have very high pitched clean vocals. To be honest the it's only the harsh vocals I'm going by, which to be fair, are present on other extreme metal genres.86.43.181.235 (talk) 00:55, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

I noticed the section about Turisas's "Battle Metal" album is actually about "The Varangian Way" album. There's no information about the "Battle Metal" album anywhere on the page actually. Swedish and Finnish editions of this article

Oddly, this English-language article has "Language" links to both the Swedish and the Finnish editions of this article, but the Swedish article has no "Language" link to the Finnish article, and the Finnish article has no "Language" link to the Swedish article. This is especially odd, given the strong cultural links between Finnish and Swedish speakers and between Finland and Sweden. (I myself am not knowledgeable enough about wiki coding to add those "Language" links myself.) Acwilson9 (talk) 22:29, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
