Inappropriate Tone

Parts of the prelude section seem to read like a novel, so I have tagged it with a clean-up. Specifically things like: "The economic impact in coastal Newfoundland was unprecedented – the equivalent in Ontario of permanently closing every manufacturing plant and banking headquarters, or in Alberta of closing every oil and gas-related business." Biased PoV favouring Canada

The whole article has terrible bias in favour of Canada (like the spanish goverment and the EU had been "ashamed"). Also mentions that Canada had to release the Estai crew out of enourmous pressure from Canada and the EU, when they pretty much had to due to acts of piracy commited in international waters. Again I think the PoV of this article is very biased towards Canada.

The article fails to point out information from back then, for example, that the net from the Estai was 1nm long (2 Km) compared with the standard issue (48Km), which have a bigger impact in the environment. The actions of Canada (that is , attacking a civilian vessel in international waters) were moved purely for economic interests, not evironmental like this article claims. The article also fails to acknowledge that the spanish goverment and the EU considered these acts as piracy.Dsnipper (talk) 01:41, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

I removed the reference to a 48 km. long trawl net in the interest of not misinforming school children. Trawl nets max out at around 2.6 km (2600 metres) in length, which is large enough. A 48 km long trawl net would sink a ship - how on earth could that quantity of mesh be reeled in without filling the entire hold? That's even without the fish, assuming any fish were left in the sea. Can you imagine the amount of fish that such a net could potentially contain? The drag caused by such a huge net would also immobilize a trawler. Drift nets, which are not towed in the water by a boat, may be up to 50 km long. Please find a reference that such huge trawl nets indeed 1)exist and 2) could be of any practical use, before putting in such a claim. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mary Coghlan (talk • contribs) 22:39, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

The article still shows bias towards Canada, and it's still narrated like a cheap sensationalist novel. Readding the Disputed neutrality tag until it's resolved as nothing has been fixed since the last time Dsnipper (talk) 22:59, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

UK effect

At the time of the incidents mentioned here, many UK fishermen (especially in Cornwall) supported the Canadian position, and took to flying the Canadian flag prominently on their vessels when in port. This isn't mentioned anywhere in the article--but it probably should be. I don't have any sources (just what I remember seeing on the news at the time), so I'll just mention this here for now. --RFBailey (talk) 20:57, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

I think that this chart on the right is ridiculous. It looks as if Canada, Ireland and the UK fought a war againts the EU in the 90s. I agree on that this article has to be revised. 134.99.90.252 (talk) 15:09, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Support for Canada
