A statement made in popular media - eg. http://www.seaworld.org/animal-info/animal-bytes/animalia/eumetazoa/coelomates/deuterostomes/chordata/craniata/aves/cuculiformes/guinea-turaco.htm is that the colour is soluble in water. This is questioned by later studies but somehow the older idea replicates better due to its shock value. Perhaps some reliable sources to settle the matter can be included - one is mentioned here Shyamal (talk) 08:58, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- I've only ever read this about turacin, not turacoverdin. The page you linked to says "In fact, if you stirred a glass of water with a red turaco feather, the water would turn pink!" That's referring to turacin (red). And indeed, early studies on turacin stated it washed out of birds during the rainy season, and grew back later. Later that was proven false.
