White-space and re-wording

There is a large area of white-space opposite the 'contents' box. It needs removing/drastically reducing.
Anyone got any ideas?

In the 'Recruitment' section, para 3, I've changed 'April 1914' to 'August'. If Hackett did initially apply in April, the sentence should be re-worded to that effect; as it stood, it was wrong, because Britain declared war in August, not April 1914.

In the 'Battle of Messines' section, para 4, this sentence pops up out of no-where: "This choice reduced the total explosive to 450 tonnes". I don't understand it. e.g. What "choice"? and I would have thought that not many British soldiers worked in "tonnes" during WW I.

Thanks for your input! I undertook a large scale development of the article and after a while you become article-blind! Answering your points:

1. The white space is an inbuilt problem with the format of Wikipedia. The larger the number of sections, the bigger the white space problem

2. Accepted on Hacket

3. From various refs in that section, they started with 22 tunnels to be dug. They abandoned one (found) and only exploded 19 in the end, hence the overall reduction in explosive tonnage.

The last section I added was about the skills origin and integration into British fighting forces, going back to miners in the Forest of Dean, the ref for which brings up that the corps was re-established for a period in WW2 to dig the caves in Gibraltar. I am also concious that many of the companies in WW1 were from countries other than the UK. Integrating this could make it into a bit of a monster article, but not sure how to address - thoughts?
