I think there is an error in the timeline of Japanese occupation. He was captured when he landed in Malaya with his two colleagues. They escaped death by pretending to cooperate with Japanese Intelligence, feeding them both real and false information; with full knowledge of their Allied handler. Do check a book titled "Have you seen Mariam?"
