Why does the source link for the weather info point to someone's personal home page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.65.0.24 (talk) 15:04, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Apparently the link changed since it was first added. I didn't get someone's personal home page; just something that said "bad page". I've corrected it. Try now. →Wordbuilder (talk) 15:30, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Origin of Name

edit

This story of the origin of the name Tucumcari is obvious hogwash. It is credited to a Methodist Minister, in 1907, by Sam Lowe in his book New Mexico Curiosities (pp. 59-63) Globe Pequot, 2009.Colin McLarty (talk) 00:04, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

The story is clearly noted as legend/folklore and is appropriate to include. A Methodist minister may have suggested the town bear the name of the nearby mountain which had been called such for over a hundred years by 1907. →Wordbuilder (talk) 00:20, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
The story may certainly be referenced, but it should not be told in its entirety, as it currently is written. Further, it should be properly referenced as to origin.Doug (talk) 00:25, 19 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Don't hesitate to fix it, then. →Wordbuilder (talk) 03:42, 19 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Dan Kenneth Phillips (Four Corners - A Literary Excursion Across America) describes a conversation with the town's local photographer James Crocker here: http://edge.net/~dphillip/Tucumcari.html in which the story of "Tucum" and "Kari" is acknowledged to be apocryphal and merely something concocted by a group of local businesspeople at the old Elk Drugstore. Evidently Tucumcari is a native word and is taken from the name of the mountain, but the question of who fabricated the legends and why is open for discussion. 66.102.83.61 (talk) 15:58, 3 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I added the point on whether the legend is questionable here only to have a kilobyte of info deleted from the article with an edit comment falsely accusing me of deleting content here. I've raised the issue on the talk page of the user in question here and have requested a second opinion here. 66.102.83.61 (talk) 17:46, 4 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hopefully enough time has passed to attempt a proper reference to the name again. I have made those edits, today. Your comments are welcome. Kyle(talk) 01:22, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
