Tuʻi Tonga → Tu'i Tonga – Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Typographic conformity specifies that apostrophes should be straight, not curly or slanted. Is this character an apostrophe, or is it a special character used in Tongan orthography? Verbcatcher (talk) 02:06, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

• Oppose. The fakauʻa is not an apostrophe and it should be written with Unicode U+02BB ʻ MODIFIER LETTER TURNED COMMA and not with the single quote or quote open (See fakauʻa and Tongan alphabet for details and cf. Nukuʻalofa, Māʻuluʻulu). —  AjaxSmack  01:01, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
  • Thank you. On this basis I favour retaining the existing name. Should the apostrophes in Tongan words in the article be replaced, such as in "Tu'i Ha'atakalaua". Does Tongan use the apostrophe and the fakauʻa? Verbcatcher (talk) 14:53, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
    • I think all of the fakauʻas are already correctly rendered in this article. In some fonts, they may appear very similar to apostrophes. The glottal stop (/ʔ/) should always be represented by the fakauʻa and not the apostrophe. —  AjaxSmack  21:49, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
      • The characters appear very similar, but if you search for an apostrophe (or a fakauʻa) then you can distinguish them. This works in the Chrome and Edge web browsers. There are some rogue apostrophes in item 24 which I will attempt to fix. Even if they look the same here, the font used by Wikipedia may change and the text may be used elsewhere.
