Tsawwassen First Nation does not have any Indian Reserves. The Final Agreement, which is a treaty between Tsawwassen First Nation and the governments of British Columbia and Canada, sets out that, as of April 3, 2009, the Indian Act no longer applies. The treaty settlement lands are not "lands set aside for the use and benefit of Indians" as defined by the Indian Act. The second sentence of the paragraph titled "Treaty and land claims negotiations" contains an incorrect reference. The Final Agreement does not reference the Roberts Bank Superport. There is an agreement between Tsawwassen First Nation and Port Metro Vancouver, in respect of the Roberts bank Superport, but that agreement is the result of a negotiation to settle a legal dispute between those two groups. Additionally, aboriginal rights were not abandoned, but modified into treaty rights.

The third sentence of that paragraph is a fabrication. Tsawwassen's Final Agreement was not voted down - not in March of 2007 or at any other time. The first sentence of the next paragraph infers that the treaty, as it was presented to Tsawwassen First nation Members to vote on, was changed in some way since the end of the end of the negotiaiton. The sentence wshould be modified to remove the word 'new'.

The area identified in the map includes areas that are outside of the Tsawwassen First Nation traditional territory and statement of intent areas. Additionally, the title of the map suggests that Tsawwassen has an ownership interest or jurisdiction over all of the areas identified in the map, and that is not the case. The title "Tsawwassen Lands" should be deleted.

Regarding "Government", Tsawwassen is not a "Band", as the Indian Act no longer applies. The term "First Nation" should be used.

Regarding "population", it is not clear if this number referes to all residents, or just Tsawwassen First Nastion Members. In either event, this number if incorrect. The author would be well advised to use the 2006 census.

Finally, with respect to language - Tsawwassen First Nation Members speak Hunqum'i'num, which is a dialect of Halkomelem, a Central Strait Salish language, as well as English. The author mistakenly references North Straits Salish.

re map

The map just placed in the infobox by User:Organiemensch is problematic; it shows the territorial claim of the Tsawwassen FN, which because of family relations and usage areas overlaps heavily with several other territories, major ones, e.g. the Cowichan and Gulf Islands area, the Lakahahmen-Matsqui-Kwantlen-Katzie-Tsleil-waututh-Musqueam territories; this shows in the closeup only, and the location of the IR is barely visible until you go to the full-full size image; better that the map be just the closeup, with more emphasis on the IR's location, and with a "territorial claim" or some such wording. I'd ask Organiemensch to revise the map, but I had a look at his user page and he's only got En-1 as his English rating, basic English only, so communications with him are hard (he appears to have a home in German Wikipedia, and most of these articles are mirrored there no doubt).Skookum1 (talk) 15:57, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure what to do in this instance. All the nations need maps. The provincial government tends to make fairly usable ones for the treaty negotiation webpages, I don't suppose we could get permission to use those? Vagary (talk) 18:05, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

They can esily be linked; my main ideae was that Organiemenchs' map simply be edited/enlarged, with an explanatory caption that those are only areas historically used by the Tsawwassen but which may be/are in the territories of other nations; part of the problem is that whole ethnic groups with related traditions/territories/familis were cut up into separate bands and those since havee defined themselves as separate "nations". Hence all the overlapping territories; but rest assured Matsqui Prairie, Pitt Meadows and the Cowichan Valley are not part of the "Tsawwassen Nation,nor is the whole of the cities of Vancouver, Burnaby and Richmond as shown. A whole article on territorial claims might be worth doing; the map would be a nightmare, although again BC govt maps could be linked to...Skookum1 (talk) 18:36, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

NmTC Office

There is no longer an NmTC office on Tsawwassen First Nation lands, I’m not sure about affiliation but as far as I’m aware Tsawwassen is no longer affiliated with NmTC.
