No, they simply need to know for almost every case it was a TD that was short lived and didn't hit land. Im quite certain WPAC is the only basin that does that anyways. Figfires^{Send me a message!} 14:04, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Timeline

For the timeline, wouldn't it be easier to just use the SSHS listing for tropical cyclones by JTWC, NHC, CPHC, etc., since it is the most used scale in the world? HurricaneGonzalo | Talk | Contribs 20:08, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Inconsistency in Tropical Storm Count

The tropical systems in the table on the bottom of the page don't add up to the total storms if counted one by one on the page. The table has about 8 or 9 more systems counted, and I checked if it was because systems in 2018, from the 2018-19 seasons, were accidentally counted. I fixed that, but it still doesn't add up. So, either the table has too many or the page is missing some systems. Does someone want to help me figure out why they aren't adding up? Jayab314 (talk) 17:30, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

The Storm Tracks Image of this article is about a month or two outdated. There isn't any Hurricane Michael, Hurricane Walaka, Typhoon Yutu, etc. Please fix!

Are Bolaven and Ava considered part of 2018?

Starting the discussion here. As stated in the Inconsistency in Tropical Storm Count section, Bolaven is considered to be a part of 2018 according to JMA and PAGASA. @Jayab314: Okay... Ava can be included since Meteo France didn't mark it as a TC until after New Year's. However, even though Bolaven is considered a part of the 2018 season, it should not be included here. It is only part of the 2018 season because it was named in January. The JMA marked it as a TC (was a tropical depression) on December 29 which makes it a 2017 TC. Noah^Talk 19:30, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

@Hurricane Noah: But what I don't understand is why it can't be a part of both. I simply thought since it formed in December, but dissipated in January, it should be considered part of both. It even says on the actual Wikipedia page for Bolaven, "The system also spanned two calendar years, making it a part of both the 2017 and 2018 seasons." And the same argument can be made for Ava, so I believe both Ava and Bolaven are considered a 2018 TC. Jayab314 (talk) 20:46, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

@Acyclonxe: @Hurricane Noah: According to Hurricane Noah, Meteo France didn't name Ava until 2018. According to the Bolaven Wikipedia page, Bolaven wasn't officially named by either PAGASA or JMA until January 1. Also, Bolaven didn't become a tropical depression until 18:00 UTC on January 1. Keep in mind the JTWC stuff does not matter one bit. "Forming as part of the 2017 Pacific typhoon season, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) began tracking on a weak tropical depression that had developed about 172 km (107 mi) to the south-southwest of Palau on December 30, 2017" JMA is all that counts. Forget it... include them both on both pages. Make sure you show the full length of their existence in the timeline if you do. Noah^Talk 23:40, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

The JMA counts it as a part of the 2018 Season hence the 1801 designation not 17XX and I personally would prefer to see it in both articles but only counted towards 2018.Jason Rees (talk) 13:55, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

@Acyclonxe: Yes, All Australian region TL's will link to the November one because we cannot specify which one we want to link to. The code just links it to the first TL which is the November one. No way of fixing it unless we change the names of the TL's to TL 1, TL 2, etc. or we just link each Australian TL to the article and not to the specific section.
