Male categories?

edit

Is Weekes in categories like American male novelists because they are a man who uses they/them pronouns, or did someone forget to update the categories after they came out? QuietCicada chirp 17:15, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Doesn't matter if he "choose" pronouns, he's male and a single person, therefore "he". 5.77.74.34 (talk) 11:18, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Changing Name of Article

edit

I'm not sure how to do this, and I don't have an account, but I'm the person who's been trying to update Weekes's page to be congruent with their name change. Could someone change the name of this article so it says 'Trick Weekes' instead? Thanks! 172.91.133.64 (talk) 21:16, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

This article is confusing

edit

In good faith I am confused. Are Patrick/Trick the same person? Maybe I'm conflating two people with similar names. Trick must be a typographical error, and the bizzare pronoun usage/information isn't sourced reliably. 2600:100A:B050:4BEB:3870:48FF:FEF0:59DA (talk) 23:04, 10 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, they're the same person. There are two general claims being made in the article. Firstly (1), that their current name is Trick: the citation for this is https://wandering.shop/@PaladinBard, the author's official social media profile. Secondly (2), that they use they/them pronouns: the citation for this is https://patrickweekes.com/about/, the author's official website. arcticocean ■ 23:09, 10 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
For your first question, they are the same person but it seems as if, from what I can tell from the sources, the name "Trick" seems to have been added in error. They are (from what I could tell) referred to as "Trick Weekes" only in one source, the first one. This however is also incorrect, as its title has been edited and now reflects the name they use on Twitter and also on the page which arcticocean posted above - their username on Mastodon is Trick, however the bio does say "Account for Patrick Weekes".
That being said, the pronouns are sourced very reliably, to them themselves. See WP:PRIMARY and WP:ABOUTSELF. CommissarDoggoTalk? 23:12, 10 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Speaking more on their first name, on their BlueSky they do refer to themselves as Trick Weekes. Would definitely be worth gathering some consensus on this. CommissarDoggoTalk? 23:14, 10 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
He doesn't get to "choose pronouns", he's a male and a single person, therefore "he". 5.77.74.34 (talk) 11:20, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Again, see MOS:NB and MOS:SINGULARTHEY. They do get to and they have, they've got it on most of their social media. Wikipedia summarises what sources say, please see WP:PRIMARY and WP:ABOUTSELF. CommissarDoggoTalk? 11:31, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
