It is extremely difficult to get reliable, up-to-date information about transport in Chad. The introduction is based on sources such as UN and relief agency web sites, none of which provide much detail. Kahuzi 12:38, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

The paved road is now longer than 267 km. I don't have the number off-hand but I'll try to track it down. The road is now paved for a relatively short distance north of N'Djamena (to Massakory, I think) and also runs south from N'Djamena through Guelendeng (153 km south) then to Bongor (80 more km) then Kelo (130 km) then at least to Moundou (not sure of the distance) and, I think (based on recent conversation with a Chadian friend) may be be expanding from Kelo towards the Cameroonian border via Pala and Lere. I've updated the 267 km figure to my best estimate of its current length; if anyone can track down more specifics, please feel free to revise it. Also, there is boat traffic into Chad across Lake Chad from Niger -- it's mostly small boats used by merchants but there is a trade route there, that actually includes stops on islands in Lake Chad, and so may be worth noting somewhere.
