Is this really different from Transhipment (propose merge) edit

This article attempts to make a clean distinction between transhipment and transloading. Unfortunately that whole section is unsourced. It is very hard to verify that the claimed definitions are correct. I've been looking and I think the idea that "transloading" is the modern term for what used to be called "transhipment" is hard to support. There are some sources that use transhipment to mean the entire journey during which transloading takes place, but many more that use different definitions or even use the terms interchangeably. For example Schramm on pages 36 and 37 [1]. This talks about "transport chains" which include "transhipment points". Here "transport chain" is what is being defined in our transhipment article, and a "transhipment point" is the place (eg a dock) where transhipment takes place. Schramm defines "transloading" as the transhipment of bulk loads (as opposed to containers).

I think these two terms are much more interchangeable than the current articles describe, and are essentially referring to the same activity. If that is true, I think we should merge the articles. I'd love to hear other opinions though. Railfan23 (talk) 03:44, 25 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
